Good Evening,

Approximately six months ago, the Kusari Naval Forces attacked the forces of the Crayter Military and the Fourth Octavarium Fleet during their offensive into Gallia. As a result of that unprovoked attack, a state of war has existed between our nations. Since that time, however, the circumstances in the region have shifted, and the Octavarian Senate recognises that the prospect of a resurgent Royalist Gallia poses a much greater threat to the peace and stability of the Tau Region and Sirius at large.

As such, I have been authorised to approach all of you in the hopes of putting an end to the conflict currently plaguing the Tau region and forging a new regional alliance aimed at preventing a new Gallic War. While we recognise that we cannot build trust overnight, I hope that everyone here will at least recognise that this war is a distraction that none of us can afford. To that end, we propose the following mutual defence pact.

1. All parties to this treaty, where applicable, agree to an immediate cessation of hostilities and the resumption of normal trade.
   
   
2. The Reformed Empire of Kusari will return Barra Anchorage to the Crayter Republic. No reparations will be demanded, and the Kusari Naval Forces may retain a presence at the Barra Lane Terminus in Tau-31 if they so choose.
   
   
3. All parties to this treaty recognize the existential threat posed by a resurgent Royalist Gallia to the Tau region and Sirius at large. As such, all parties to this treaty agree to declare war on Gallia should any of them come under attack by Gallic forces.
   
   
4. As this treaty is purely defensive in nature, no party to this treaty is required to aid any other in the event of an unprovoked attack on Gallia.
   
   
5. This treaty will not preclude any signatory from engaging in diplomacy with Gallia, provided they honour their obligations when called upon.

Consul Riley,

This comes as a small surprise to us, but not at an unwelcome time. Considering the status of the Taus as they stand, and the incorporation of ex-Royalist elements into the former Confederacy, my department was actually deliberating whether to contact Bretonia and Natio about this issue. I'm pleased to see there are others concerned about this development.

If Kusari is willing to return Crayter property to the Republic, then we see no reason that this Defensive Pact against House Gallia shouldn't be considered. While, yes, tensions will be tight, we are prepared to move towards peace for the betterment of the Crayter people.
