' Wrote:Its probably your AVG. It was on the blacklist for FL running on a Vista machines until Tic ( my hero) figured out a way to make it work. Basicaly, uninstall AVG then reinstall but this time click on *custom install* and make sure only things marked *free version* are ticked, leave the rest and that lets you go online with Vista and FL. There is a thread somewhere here but im at work at the mo.
Hope that helps bud.
Awesome thank you!
I'll give that a shot later on tonight and let you know how I make out. I have disabled AVG and it didnt work, but I did not try uninstalling it.
Just to make sure I guess I'll uninstall it completely and then try to connect with FL. If AVG is completely gone from my system then it should work and I'll just figure out the install process later on.
' Wrote:That happens because the last few slots are kept for the admins.:P
yes I understand that the last couple slots are always reserved for an admin rank. But the problem happens on every server i click connect on. Whether it has 3/100 or 99/100 people on it.
=(
Don't mind that guy. For some people to be a programmer means you're some kind of computer god who knows everything when you've got a computer problem.
Have you tried that AVG tip they gave you? You haven't said anything about it, right?
A few players aren't counted because they are on the Character selection page.
But hwne it says a server has only 3 out of 100 slots in use.. that many people should not be on the char select screen or whatever.. and I am not getting a "server is full" message.. its telling me it is unable to connect..
I will post a screenshot of the error and the server list in a minute or two.. let me go get it..

Im far from a computer god lol. I like my car analogy...I can drive a car great, but i can't fix it. So just becuase I can program doesnt mean I am super at networking. Its a different area of computer useage.
=)
but I have been working with machines all my life. I'm good with some areas but sorely lacking in others. Networking happens to be one of the areas I lack ability in. I didn't mean it to sound like i know everything there is to know.. i just wanted people to understand that I do have a good working knowledge of systems is all.
No I have not tried the AVG work around. I will be trying it later tonight.
I will post results then regardless of whether it works or not
Actually, I'm having a very similar problem with Vista and free AVG (used to have Norton, then McAfee, but dumped them both), so it may well be something else. My laptop runs Vista, and even with the router firewall turned off, laptop firewall and Windows Defender off, and AVG off, I can't connect to Freelancer. The desktop we have which runs XP can run Freelancer just fine. It has an ethernet cable thingy connecting it directly to the router, if that makes a difference. I'd dearly love to be able to be able to connect to Discovery from my laptop, since the desktop isn't always available.

I had to completely uninstall AVG. Once I did that it worked.
Once it was off the system and freelancer was wroking you can reinstall AVG but choose "custom install" instead of express. Choose the directory you want it in, then when it asks you which components of AVG you want to install, only check the box for "free AVG" and make sure the other boxes are unchecked.. they are the ones that deal with avg checking mail, checking downloads and one other (web sites maybe?)
Once ONLY THE FREE AVG is installed you should be able to play Freelancer and have AVG running, but with limited functionality.
Hope this helps. Its what I had to do to get it all working.
