It had two tizonas and rest transport level 3.
It also wanted to take third of the VIP passengers and demanded the fattest and richest wallets so he can randsom them off after talk with Hawaii.
The trader informed that he will not tarnish his reputation of a OSC pilot and fired upon me.
That didn't last long because tizonas drained his power and his sluggish movements were outmanouvered by my skilled piloting skills of piloting and leet.
He would actually arrive to freeport 1 if a gunboat and another ptrans didn't show up.
I must say that those two camps you are talking about are actually actively in the game.
You want your ship to be an awesome fort? Sacrifice 200 cargo and stick a capital armor 5 on that. No way a pirate transport can stop you then. You want more cargo? sacrifice armor and hope those 50more vips do the money trick.
OSC is an awesome ship, and I don't think VIPs should be commodity for anyone but OSC.
They are great ships for roleplay and rarely manage to lose. You just ended up on someone who pirated over 50 of those and knows when to fire what.
EDIT: Sorry for ruining your experience with the Luxury Liner but it is just fine the way it is. I bet you think it is bit unfair, but situation is more dire at my end. With the fast dock options, it happens most of the time that the people with the ships that aren't supposed to fly there, and ID's that should not fly there, carry things they should not carry (Planetform ID adv trains carrying vips) and manage to run to the base before I manage to take them down. Luxury liner is fine as it is, and if PieGuy didn't make PanGal company, I would sure be forming one on my own. Your routes are awesome, your rewards are great. Your roleplay can only grow.
I had a mixture of transport turrets 2 and 4, and cap armor V. The problem was the transport was stuck so close to my hull that only 2-3 guns could shoot at once. The Liner is much too large to shoot at a small target at close range. If I didn't have any armour, I would have died MUCH sooner. I'll gladly post a screenshot if you guys could help me with my build, I haven't made any changes since, just more cautious through popular systems...
i also fly Lux liner with two pulse turrets and rest those 1000k shooters....with cap7 armor...before that i had prison liner...
now comparing those two ships with same armor and size, lux is considerably less agile. Ok, it has two more turrets, but it also has wider front profile and higher side profile.
IMO only thing that is wrong with Lux is its decreased agility compared to Prison liner...other then that...well that ship sure is a flying fortress...while i fly it i dont fear even cap armored corsair GB...
I had a lux liner once. I think it is by far and away the most prettiest ship in the game... and the most useless in combat. If they get too close there's really not much you can do as a solo pilot. Drop Nuc mines?
But think about it - would a lux liner really set sail without some form of protection - even if it were another lux liner so he could scrape the pie-rat off you.
But how realistic is it to always have an escort when trading...I'm trying to elude the fate of having a separate trader, and using the Luxury Liner as eye candy.
Do you guys think having Cap VIII armor would help? I'm still skeptical about the different a 0.7x additional hull multiplier would make, but that's the only option I see.
If you can afford the Cap 8, it would make a large difference. Your current armor gives you 594000, but a Cap 8 would give you 720000. That's another SNAC you could survive.
And, if you can always find someone to escort you while trading, it greatly improves your chances of escape.
Nothing much bugging me, was really just asking if any other Luxury Liner players had any tips I could use in future to avoid failing so badly. Nothing worse than seeing your shield and hull slowing being ground away bot/batt supplies diminishing and knowing there is nothing you can do about it. I'm too use to playing a quick fighter, and slow ships are so different, and vulnerable.
Also has anyone else noticed the liner's guns are useless if the other ship is directly behind? I just did a test only 4 of the guns fire.

Very Realistic. I'd suggest a pair of heavy fighters, or one fighter and one bomber. The captain of the Liner would give scouting missions to the escorts ('that nebula looks suspicious, there's reports of pirate activity in that area, go see if its clear')
In RL, when the cruise ships go through Suez/Panama/Straits of Malaaca, they're always discreetly tailed by a RN MV-class vessel. Supertankers too, come to think of it. Pleasure craft (that sounds dirtier than it is) travel in convoy. So, yeah, escorts=genuine
Cap8 costs a fair bit. but once you have it, its like a sticker on the side of the ship 'you need to be this tall to enjoy this ride'. some pirates may just reconsider.
I didn't mean realistic in an RP sense, but rather practically, I only have one real friend on Discovery, and even then he wouldn't be accompanying me all the time, as providing cruises is basically all I enjoy doing. Hiring other random players seems to consume alot of my playing time, not withstanding how long they would be able to help before they need to go offline and such, as my routes are rather long.
But since you have suggested it, I shall try it and test the efficacy of escorts myself, thanks.
