As the Arena idea seems attractive, I'm planning to make a new Arena system for 4.78. Entrance to new system will be in Manhattan; this place seems to be most convenient as it's a no-attack zone.
In this thread you may post ideas on how Arena should look like. I'm currently planning
2 bases with repairs and some equipment - for two players or parties who participate in the arena duel;
Racing route similar to Dublin system, but more lengthy and versatile;
No NPCs.
For the arena system I think it should have some large open areas for huge fleet battles to take place there. A base so you can dock there if you are killed in a fight. It should be a no PvP zone apart from organised events and fights.
For the race course I think it should have the same rings as Dublin's course but be more challenging. Through a nebula so it is harder to predict which way to turn until you are right in front of the ring. Through a radiation field, asteroids and maybe some other suprises to make it more interesting.
Ohh and maybe we could use wasps and hornets on this course :P
That's all i've thought of for now if there is something more i'll be sure to post :)
how do you think would a race go? who will watch all the gates that noone flies by instead of through it? or take shortcuts...
i wouldn't make such race-thing... it's much work isn't it? and for what?

light blue lines are tradelanes
yellow lines and dots are in-system-jumps
brown circles are clouds (with or without rocks)
entry to the system would be arround....... here -> O
the clouds and bases would mark the border to "some large open area" in the middle ;)
and you could see that you're leaving this area by using one of the base-near jumps (cause you see the base)
didn't you say that you should not be able to predict where to head after the next race-gate till your there? well you have to go just straight anyway... O.o
That's what I intend to do:
- No excess objects in the battlefield;
- Trade lanes only for getting around;
- No internal jump holes;
- Racing route around battlefield, not somewhere inside;
- As few excess objects (nebulas, gas pockets, etc) as possible - to reduce lag;
- I'd like racing routes to be mostly clear of nebulas (sorry Lancer).
