Been thinking lately about some starship designs, specifically what kind of ships would originate from a mining group.
What struck me as a bit odd was that looking back, the Red Hessians have some odd aesthetic choices. Their ships have alot of curves and rather stylish structural designs. But in my mind I figure that a group like that would have even more cumbersome looking ships, totally utilitarian in design. Of course this thinking is based off of the idea that most of their equipment and gear would have originated from captured and repurposed mining and utility craft. Instead most of their stuff looks rather artfully designed.
Just struck me as very odd... I dunno, but maybe I just keep going back to the Bora from Tachyon in my mind.
I'd agree with you here.
If anything, Hessian ships would be similar to the utility line - CSV, Mining Ship, Transports, Heavy Lifter, Repair Ship, etc - and the Rheinland line.
They are the 3rd largest unlawful faction just under Corsairs and Outcast and can wage a war to a standstill with one of them. They seem to have the resources to make ships or acquire makers of ships that are either suited to their environment or what is effective in countering their enemies. I do believe they have fair degree of access to good technology to be able to hold their own for so long in the Omegas.
Indeed they are, but still they had to start somewhere, and I just do not see how ships and tech in Rheinland could have influenced their ship designs. I figured they had to build up, but the fancy designs they have now just seem to be... well misplaced.
I always thought they looked kind of like twisted versions of Rheinland ships. And the Waran is supposed to be a older version of their ships - look at that.
I like asgard line. Still that bunch of failed miners have it is a bit strange. I would undestand if Unioners would have something like that since they are ex-shipbuilders, but Hessians. In vanilla they use BW ships and I guess it makes sense for them to use those.
But whatever. I'm used to the things how they are now.
The Unioners have even less resources for such a thing. The current line was probably designed for the AW, and makes very little sense as the Hessian line.
I'm not trying to say they couldn't pull it off, but why would they want to?
