Ok, so this is my first time living through a new version of Discovery. The new changes/additions look amazing (smuggling! CM on all transports! sweet new ships!).
But my question is, when the beta(s) is finished and the RP server is being upgraded to the new version, will there likely be a player wipe? There seem to be an awful lot of changes, and I don't know whether they could all be integrated without a wipe or not.
If there isn't a wipe (I hope not), will the starmap and system/base information automatically be updated with the changes, or will it remain incorrect until I explore through the areas/dock on the bases again, or will the whole thing be a blank slate? First would be best, but I'd actually prefer the third over the second. Easier to know where I've been.
First off, don't worry about a wipe, they almost never do one. (and give tons of notice when they do need one)
The server files are carried over from the old version, so everyone's characters are safe. All of the MOD changes are included in the new version, which you install instead of the old one. You will probably lose your SP save files though.

As far as the star maps....what you have explored should still be there... You will just have to explore the new systems. The best thing to do before the upgrade is to go to a well known system, that way, if there would be a system that will no longer be, ( I don't think it will happen this time), you should be in a safe area to continue to the next mod. If you ever get online with the new mod, and your charactor's location is "???", then do not log on that charactor. Contact an admin to change your location, otherwise it could cause a server crash... (Same if the new Mod nerfs a weapon or an item). If I am wrong people, then please correct my reply.. otherwise, dont worry and enjoy the new Mod...
**Edit** I am sure a readme or message will be posted before the switch to let us know what we as players need to change....

Igiss posted the info about 4.84, including things that need changing, all liners should be without GB equipment (equipped that is) and best is not to be in an altered system, for example tau-44 this may give trouble...
i for one have to get all my chars out of 44 and my liner needs to de-arm the gb turrets... read the post and it will all get clearer. Once new version comes im sure Igiss will surely make a new post on what WE as players need to remind when getting to new version.
