It refers to "Baron Samedi" who, according to Haitian Voodoo mythology is the head of the family of spirits that relegate death & fertility. It's belived the Hatians borrowed the name from the Celtic "Samhain" (so-ween) which is the old pagan thing that Halloween originated from.
It's also the name of a minor vampire bloodline in the Mark Rein-Hagen school of pre-Requiem vampirology.
