Last two weeks i were at NY mostly on my new weapon dealer.

I sell not only codenames, but also enh. thrusters, shields, armor upgrades, fighter missiles and:

[color=#FFFFFF]Advanced cargo scanners

So long story short, i have met lots of ships with a discovery scanner; most of them believed in discovery scanner are the best highend scanners inspace.

What did YOU think? What is the best scanner?

I prefer more scanning range.
I think : "What's the point in seeing someone at the same sort of range, when what they are carrying is more important?"

I prefer information, over curiousity.

Red, doesn't matter. You can generally tell who is what, by their name. A friend can still be red. An enemy can be white. Not very often are they green. So to me, knowing that someone is about is less important, than knowing the reason they are about.

ID, will reveal far more info than colour.
Cargo will reveal if this person is interested in roleplaying to some extent or not.
Cargo, I find, is more revealing than name, ID, or anything else for that matter.

Not always, but generally speaking.

I Voted Advanced cargo scanner

if one wants to map or "discover" things in systems than sure, go with a disco scanner.

Otherwise, I feel scan range is far more important, especially in an RP environment.

Discovery Scanner.

I LIKE knowing when someone is around, especially when I'm on my Trader.

That couple of extra k's scanning range has made all the difference between being pirated and getting away several times.

The Battleship License. It beats them all.

Also, I'm pretty sure the longer scanner distance on the Discovery Scanner only applies to objects and bases. It has nothing to do with the distance you can pick up a player ship.

Discovery scanner is good if you're looking for bases or jumpholes. Doesn't make a difference on player scanning range, they always pop up around 14K.

Advanced cargo scanner for fights, as you can sum up your foe from 4K instead of.. 2.5K, or whatever the Discovery range is.

Discovery Scanner.

I sub-target to find out equipment anyway.

Advanced Cargo Scanner was always my first pick. I never really understood the whole sensor vs. cargo thing, I always thought that the Discovery Scanner was pretty much useless.

Cargo scanner? I can scan you from 4k, AND I still see 14k out.

Disco scanner? Only 2.5k scan distance, and on top of that, I see no apparent strong points in having it.

Is that really all the Discovery Scanner is for? Being able to identify bases/planets from a farther distance?
