Yes I am with Jon & AC... at the moment a majority of players visit, what, half-dozen basis in all Sirius. Those are the ones at either one of the few money runs. It'd be nice being able to visit the likes of Perth (where??) and Shinigawa (who??), and still make some profit.
On the flip side I can just hear people whining that, under this scheme, making $1,000,000,000 for that BS with VIII armor would take even more work. You'll excuse me if I don't get my hanky out.
Unfortunately the dynamic economy mod/conversion thing would require alot of coding... its really outside the scope of Disco and must be consigned to the "too hard" basket.
At this stage it would make more sense simply spreading the price of commodities around a bit, so we have more trade choices.
i played on another mod (cant remember name) and it kept me away from discovery for quite a while
i loved it, it made trading interesting, and i have never played a trader for more than a day.
Also the random missions were fun as hell, as it had smuggling missions and search missions and most of them would invite you and it changed depending on the base you were on, it really engaged you in the game and the story
so before you all bad mouth it, it is worth a shot, and at least give it a trial run.
also in regards to glitches and lags, i experienced none on the server.
one other thing, the commodity prices are changed everyday not every transaction, so cargo one day could be gold, next day (or server restart i think) worthless
just my two cents

I half agree with you Onca. There are allot of money routes, its just that no one is very intrested in finding them all. At least not without FL companion. If anyone wants to know some off the betean path routes, PM me. When I ran <<A>> I dedicated my time to the finding of these routes.
However, Shinigawa would be a nice place to visit, same with many, many others, but the lack of readily accessible return items is an issue. I have been playing around with new commodity ideas lately. I will shift my attention to building some runs to these obscure stations and pass those onto Igiss and see what he thinks.
EDIT: Crossfire uses a Dynamic economy like you described, but it has an automatic update utility which discovery does not. The mod creators there can make a new Goods.xml every week and upload it.

Maybe im new to modding or something, but i think you missed it when i said that this mod has already been created. and as far as i can tell is implemented on many servers. The idea ISNT to detach from the feel of discovery but to ADD to it. the problem is that the community needs to be open to trialing it... perhaps on a seperate server. I dont think im wrong that most.... perhaps 70% of the coding for this mod, would not need to be adapted to disco.
Therefore, we should really start a vote or something in the near future after further debate has been undertaken about the pros and cons of this mod.
There are very big benefits that would make so many usefull changes to the RP element of the disco servers with the implementation of this mod. including the ability to update the bulliten boards in bases controlled by certain factions with current events, as someone else said the ability to include trader based missions, which not only have the benefit of profit from the run but a reputation bonus for which ever factions starts it.
Overall it detracts from the boring everyday trade runs that everyone is so used to. and Expands the scope of freelancer to a new level, one that many including myself enjoy as part of games like X3-Reunion and Eve Online.
my two cents worth again.
Thank God for diplomatic and rational debate.
Again this DynEcon is not an add-on, but a whole other mod all together. In order to implement it into Discovery, Igiss would have to completely redo the modding code for Disco (it would not be a simple matter of popping this mod into the existing one). Either that or replace Disco all together with the Evolutions mod, which would efectively make this Evolutions and not Disco.
Im telling you this cannot, and more importantly, will not be done. Like I said, I like the concept, but the implementation would be an extremely monumental task.

the idea is good - but i think that a well thought out and balanced fixed traderoute system can do the just just aswell. dynamic economy might indeed add to the trading - but its of course as unrealisctic as fixed prices - cause the economy changes too fast. faster than reality so a player can actually feel a change.
not saying its good or bad - but one thing is clear. it takes up global server resources. we shall wait for the new mod version - cause if its true that contrabant pays off better than legal good, it adds to the "trading" allright anyway - just from another angle.
one could also declare the carrying of codenames in the hold as contrabant or many other things to spice up the life of traders. many things can be done in a roleplay way without the server having to do more "thinking".
I am not going to add dynamic economy in the mod. I've spent enough time rebalancing trade routes to ever think about such thing. We will have more new commodities in future, and there will be more trade routes (and old ones will gradually change). But changing the prices on everyday basis? No, thanks.
What concerns me much more is the Wikipedia edit related to this mod. According to Wikipedia quality standards, advertizing of mods is not allowed. All mentions of particular mods for Freelancer were removed from Wikipedia long ago. All links pointing towards modding communities were also removed. Even one sentence about Discovery that mentioned it winning the ModDB-2006 genre award was removed (this sentence was not added by me, just by someone from ModDB community).
Now there are two paragraphs giving nealy no info on what the mod actually does and how exactly it works, just praizing its features, giving link to the community where it's from, telling that it "changed the face of Freelancer" (in the same words as here, see first post) etc. Wikipedia is already suffering from myriads of illegit edits, and making it worse is hardly tolerable.
Maybe a little explanation on what's going on? An advertizing campaign?

Ok, yes, the DynEcon mod is a complete mod, the ones I linked to is not.
And to that end, no discussion and definitely no poll about this ... Gentlemen, it is not going to happen
as was predicted. Lets keep this forum about Discovery business only in future please, not massive changes
with other's mods being incorporated.
Any further suggestions like this will in future be moved to the 'Other Servers' forum.
