After all, I made it to Mactan. I had my doubts of survival when the state turned their attention to me. I'm sure you would be pleased to hear how I reached my current position on Mactan. But before that, allow me to finish my reasons to join you here today.
Bills were always a problem for me. I could hardly live on the loan earned for working as a security officer at launching bay 4, Newark Station. I never studied, neither did I actually bother to learn. I couldn't find any jobs that would actually give me something to live on, credits of course, except for Interspace Commerce. They needed brawn instead of brain. I felt like I was the perfect man for the job.
Once accepted as a security officer, I got introduced to most of the decks at Newark station. I worked there for 4 years, which is enough work experience to know the public areas by heart. It was an easy job, therefore I didn't get payed enough to pay off my electric bills, taxes, such annoyances. I started forging my own loans, reaching up to extra thousands per month. This all went well enough for about a year until Interspace found out about their loss. I got fired straight away and got thrown in Sugarland. After I sat my time out, the deed to my house got revoked. That was about three week ago. That's when I left Erie's orbit to seek a life somewhere else.
The Lane Hackers were known to hold a grudge towards Interspace Commerce, so I thought I would try my luck there. Once I departed from Sugarland, I made my way around New York, looking for a way to gain neutrality to the Liberty Rogues. Them being the most common unlawful around Liberty, I was sure they could point me in the right direction.
When I arrived at Manhattan, I noticed the cargo depots just outside Newark. When I pondered the choice between staying a free citizen of Liberty or becoming a hunted unlawful that would hardly be excepted anywhere, I realized how Interspace Commerce underpayed me, unnecessarily. I hesitated no more, closed in on the depots and opened fire. It took a while for the police to notice me, but when they arrived, 3 of the depots were already destroyed. I tractored some hydrocarbons, which were previously stored away inside the pods, and made my way out of Manhattan's vicinity.
It turned out my plan worked. I thought that destroying property that belonged to the state would turn the Liberty Rogues attitude of shooting me on sight to a less aggressive stance. This was indeed the case. A Liberty Rogue Raider squadron, composed of multiple Bloodhounds, saw what happened at Manhattan. They praised me for making such a daring move in front of one of the most busy area of Liberty. To my surprise, they demanded the hydrocarbons I collected from there. I had no choice but to accept their needs. I was too far at becoming accepted by the Liberty Rogues to now mess up.
After the Rogues finished filling their holds with the cargo, I begged them to show me to one of their bases. After telling a short summary of my past and reasons to join the Lane Hackers, they pointed the location of Buffalo Base in the Badlands on my navigational map. I would have preferred them to escort me to it, but apparently other things were on their mind.
So be it, I thought. Buffalo could be my only ticket to the Lane Hackers. I fired up my cruise engines and set a course to the Badlands.
The trip was hellish. Traveling inside the Badlands supposedly wasn't a smart idea. The bloke that brought that up had a good point... I collided with numerous asteroids, leaving my Starflier damaged beyond repairs once I arrived at Buffalo. I requested permission to dock. After explaining the same thing I did to the Raiders Squadron, and including the meeting with the Raiders Squadron, they cleared one of the docking points for me.
I left my ship at the docking bay and headed to a ship dealer. I had to get myself a new ship before I even wanted to continue my search for the Lane Hackers. The dealer I met understood my situation. After telling him about how I needed to find the Lane Hackers, he said he had the perfect ship for me. A Dagger. The dealer told me the Dagger was the number one choice ship of the Lane Hackers.
My neural net account indicated I had only 30.000 Sirius Credits available for spending, while the Dagger was roughly 40.000. After offering my Starflier, he rounded down to 35.000 credits. Disappointed in the result, I begged for a way he could discount the ship, make an exception or offer me a loan I would pay back within 5 days.
The ship dealer accepted the last option. He shortened the price of the Dagger to 35.000, leaving me able to purchase it. I can't describe the the joy I felt after he exactly told me how to get in touch with the Lane Hackers. I had to go to the Magellan system, to a base known as Mactan.
Two days did it take for me to arrive at Freeport 4 in Magellan. I was just about to set a course inside the Barrier when I heared someone calling my name over my comm systems. I checked my short range scanners, and spotted someone known as Mr. Sanguinetti. When he got closer to Freeport 4, I could only hope for something he would have been. A Lane Hacker, he knew my name, he knew why I was in Magellan.
Mister Sanguinetti said he had some equipment for me. He transfered a Train Cruise Disruptor and an Advanced Cargo Scanner. I gladly accepted the equipment as I could see this Hacker was not an inexperienced one. He even showed me the way to Mactan, filled out the paperworks needed for me to get access to most of the station's services and also introduced me to some Hackers that assign the lower ranked ones to objectives.
After mister Sanguinetti handled all this, he departed, only to leave the rest of my training to myself. Two weeks long I was loyal to the Hackers of Mactan. Since then, I learned quite a bit from them. They teached me how to effectively disable trade lanes, they teached me how to survive as a criminal, teached me everything I needed to know to become one of them.
I think that's everything the person who reads this needs to know. The only thing I now need to do is hoping I will be accepted as a trainee.
