I'm finally done installing all the moddy stuff and launched into pennsylvania for a while. But i've always been one for clans and group gameplay.

So has anyone got any decent clans worth joining? What do you do? etc.

As for "clans", there aren't any in the, say, first person shooter sense, but fly around as a freelancer for a while and get to know some of the lore of Sirius. Any faction that interests you, chances are there will be a (or more) corresponding player faction. Some of course, are their own entities such as security and shipping companies that aren't part of the Freelancer canon but those are few and far between (though many factions change/update the roleplay of the vanilla factions).

I of course will give you the obligatory join the factions I'm in, linked in my signature, but other than that good luck and I wish you well.

Well, we call them factions instead of clans. And if you want to join some official faction, reading their respective faction post and recruitment post could give you a good idea on what they do and who they are. All official factions have their own RP goals and objectives that they wish to accomplish over time.

Hmm, seems i've got some homework to do.

I've only ever played the original freelancer online, and it mostly consisted of random merc clans going round killing each other. From what i've heard i'm hoping there's more to find here.

Discovery Freelancer is a fully immersive roleplay environment where the only limits are common sense and plausibility. Here's some advice - don't join a faction yet, go out and explore our worlds by yourself and don't limit yourself to specific roleplay. You'll find this a much more enjoyable and rewarding experience.

Or just go into some faction which would help you to get the grip on things here.

Now we don't have actuall clans in formal form here. But there is some groups of people who likes to stick around together more than with others. Do stuff together, piss off other people together and so on so on.

Now factions are like player made official representative for npc faction. Player himself is allowed to join multiple player factions.

Yep, as per factions.

I'd recommend flying around as a freelancer for a while, getting a grip on how things work and so on and so forth.

It's how I started out, those were actually the best days for me so far... and... err *train of thought derails*
