From the experiences yesterday, i have learned, how to do it wrong. Now i will try, to make it better.
Short story: In my wet dreams, i see a real large, perfectly planned and fair race with 50 pilots, ~10-20 rule observers and many onlookers.
But i dunno, how to organize it bullet-proof.
Something is clear. Something not.
General thoughts and questions:
I have to contact a few factions in front of the event, like IMG and BAF, to RP it out.
Perhaps IMG| could observe the event's rules and the race?
The_Angels perhaps?
Others?
I would like to have a faction as observers.
I have to contact the admins for such an event, to prevent the event from things like: Server testings and not to have local chat or similar horrible timings.
Also i have to ask the admins, if there is a maximum number of players for each system.
Is it possible to have ~100 people or more in Dublin?
And how we will communicate then?
Is it possible to communicate with so many players in one system?
Perhaps the organizers/rule observers should have a teamspeak channel or so?
Who will do the (paper)work For me, i don't have teamspeak.
And also it would be nice, having an admin ship there, when the race takes place. A snac into a cloud of racers is not funny during a race.
To observe the rules of a race, there are needed lots of pilots, not only a few. If it is a rule, to fly through all gates, isn't there needed one watcher on each race gate?
Apropos rules:
Even if i liked the rules, Luis made for the race, i am not sure if it is a good idea, that cruising is not allowed.
I foresee a problem, how to watch, that noone is cheating.
What do you think? What rules should apply?
What's about shields? Allow it or not?
Bot/bats are not allowed, of course.
Cruising? Yes or no?
All pilots must become scanned, before the event will start, that is also difficult to work out, if there are so much people.
The race has to be prepared in forums a bit.
If we have 10 racers in each race, a list should be there, which pilot is in which group.
And which group has which number,
and when which group will start,
and when the pilots have to be there to let their ships check for fairness, and so on.
Timing is a key here. If the waiting pilots become bored too long, they may could cause troubles.
And then, the payment. I have offered ~2 billions. Is that too much? Would be the half sum also suffer?
If the race will have been successful, i would like to have lets say 4 Races each year. But if i make it so, i cannot pay 2 billions each time.
If i pay only 1 billion in total for each race, i think i can pay 4 races a year.
And as it is a large ammount of work, to organize and coordinate the observers, i think the payment could be:
10th - 8.000.000 Sirius Credits
9th - 11.000.000 Sirius Credits
8th - 14.000.000 Sirius Credits
7th - 17.000.000 Sirius Credits
6th - 20.000.000 Sirius Credits
5th - 30.000.000 Sirius Credits
4th - 50.000.000 Sirius Credits
3rd - 100.000.000 Sirius Credits
2nd - 250.000.000 Sirius Credits
1st - 500.000.000 Sirius Credits
....So, 1 billion for the prizes in total, and perhaps 100 million credits for the faction/group, that will watch and observe it.
Is the payment well balanced? If you think not, make a better purpose.
Also, perhaps others would like to sponsor it also, to increase the payment?
Last point: When the race starts, i want to watch the entertainment. I would like to work it out with the involved faction/group, but on the day when the race will happen, i only want to enjoy it.
I am a bit unsure, as you can see. I would like to have some input from you. The above ideas from me are only my thoughts about, how to organize a race.
So, please let me know, if the ideas are good enough, and if i forget another important point.
The situation yesterday has shown that strict rules must be applied to a setting with many players.
> Is there something like a "mute all but player X,Y,Z" command? Or does an Admin have the power to make troublemakers shut up? Ordered silence by Admins before some important parts of roleplay (like getting people to the starting ring, speeches, etc) could be beneficial.
> It would also be really important to disable weapons. When having 100 people in a spot, there is one for sure who will fire the torpedo into the crowd. Idiot quota is about 10 % on online games, so weaopon systems must be disabled to make this happen.
> Switch off NPCs during the race: They suck. A race is open to many different people, so all the strangely repped ships are there and they are being attacked by small NPC stuff. People in the audience are bored, shoot NPCs, get trigger happy, conflict, torpedo hit into the crowd, event spoilt.
That's just my thoughts on what Admins could provide (if technically possible). Because frankly, even the power of Cannon could not resolve the mess yesterday after it had already gone over the top. So the trouble that made yesterday's event a mess should be avoided way before it is a mess.

Yeah right. RP event watched by almighty admin. Very RPish.
Devide huge race in smaller ones.
45 racers per month.
15 racers first, second, third week.
Then 5 best pilots of last 3 races meets the fourth week to compete for the final jackpot.
And hire mercenaries to shoot the hell out of trigger happy onlookers.

Yes, that sucks a bit, but what else can be done?

I will think about splitting it, but i cannot plan 4 weekends in total for that.
Ye, A huge group of players, All kept talking and talking. Asked them numerous time to stop talking but they wouldnt listen. It was very spammy, and was mainly (I would reckon), the restarts that caused this, the little part was when local was broke.
So ye,.. the only way I think considering this is ag ame, and kids litterally play it, would be that an admin feature should be implement to silence the spammers.

*Anti-flame umbrella in hand*
This will never happen.
Consequence: Admin presence and active intervention is obligatory.
Everybody present yesterday knows that a planned event like yesterday's is not possible if not "guarded". Because most will know that stupid actions will likely get them 14 days of ban if caught red-handed in harming a roleplay event. Mature people can do without admins, but at such an event there will always be persons from the 10% quota.
Mercenaries shooting the heck out of people:
Nope, it will only result in a Dublin furball of "You shot him, I like him... Engaging... Jumping in... Yeeehaaaa! Furball! Shooting!! Then Indians will come in, after that SCRA and what is left will leave the server". Okay, exaggerated.
Only solutions in my opinion: No weapons active. There will be trouble becuase it's a pewpew game and many can't think that it's 30 minutes no pewpew.
