Well, I doubt that Lane Hackers will have a seat in some kind of Liberty Senate (or what do they have there), though absolute majority of players can make difference of lobbying interests of their faction ingame and creating more interesting roleplay situations by planning things out of roleplay - that way facing pros and cons of any important decisions on character level, but losing nothing as players anyway. Without some kind of reasoning and planning, personalities clash instead of ships - and in result we see strange and confusing decisions or frustration.
Well wolf I fully support this idea so you know I am up for this also for those wanting to know about finna fail and Fine Gael as well as an Irish history please ask me . I would also give you the basic history of many of the Irish political parties

...When did this change? Anything else is kind of silly, mostly because the official factions are the only ones with power over anything anyway.

You've brought up rather bad example: the Lane Hackers are rather agressive corporate competitor for the Ageira and Interspace. Or separation corporation. They don't represent any political views, the Lane Hacker may be nationalist and socialist, it's up to him, as long as he doesn't cross LH objectives.
Xenos are much better example: they may be represented by radical nationalistic party in Senate.
Elven, you know that I referred to Hackers, because they are information terrorists and pirates - that way being a tad similiar to Pirate Parties we have nowadays - they are all about laws regulation information exchange via networks.
