' Wrote:Kensington shipping Platform has been on station since 672 A.S. with Gateway Interstellar owning it from its foundation in 775 A.S.
It's been there a very long time and possibly one of the oldest stations in New London. The trade lane, I am sure, was named a very long time before Gateway owned it so to presume anything else is just stupid. Traditions you speak of? These lanes have been known by their names for centuries now. This in itself is tradition is it not?
You'll find that time can and does change the name of trade lanes, sir. The tradition is not "what was, shall remain so", but rather "the most significant landmark present shall be honoured". If your own mildly absurd suggestion of "whatever was there longest" should be implemented, then surely the lanes should be named after Planet Dover? After all, Planet Dover has been there far longer than Kensington, no? Far longer than Bretonia itself. Another example - in the Cambridge system this time; Ross Planetoid occupied the names of the trade lanes that converged there, until the Battleship Norfolk was stationed in orbit. Ross is a curiosity, but its significance is far outstripped by the Norfolk's role as protector of the realm. Hence the trade lanes were renamed to address this development. Just as Ross' significance pales compared to the Norfolk, Kensington's pales compared to Canterbury.
' Wrote:My suggestion to calm the situation by submitting a compromise clearly has not worked as you have taken it as a sign that we at Gateway will bow down to your nonsense. You are mistaken sir.
No sir, we took Gateway's "compromise" as a sign that you had legitimised our point and realised you could not hope to withstand the tides of change. You obviously made such a "compromise" in the hope that it would appease the honourable petitioners, while allowing you to somewhat wrongfully retain a portion of your current position of prestige. Why should the good men and women of Planetform settle for second place after all these years of wrongful abuse? Surely you agree that Planetform should be rewarded and recognised for services that have been and will be rendered? Surely you are not so selfish as to deny them this deserved reward out of a sense of petty personal gain and attainment?
' Wrote:The whole point of this so called petition is to degrade the good reputations of Gateway Interstellar, the IMG and even Planetform by dragging them into your nonsense for your own agenda.
And what would that agenda be?
I thank you sir for insulting the intelligence of Planetform's board of directors. I am sure they appreciate that. Had this been a ruse, some slight of hand designed to discredit all of the above listed, I am sure they would have realised this and refused to sign the petition. Would you be so condescending as to think you yourself know better than all of them? I can assure you, our motives here are utterly transparent - to have an unjust situation rectified and the Canterbury junction trade lanes renamed as they should be. If the CEO of Gateway feels differently about this - perhaps having the power of clairvoyance to glimpse into the future - he can take up the matter with the Bowex Fringe via a private transmission. We would certainly be interested in his powers of precognition - there is a large National Lottery rollover coming up, after all.
' Wrote:Could you be getting scared that some private companies are doing pretty well and are now encroaching on state run corporations?
Could it be that your group is hell bent on causing unrest throughout Bretonia in this time of unrest?
Could it be that you think the Bretonian people, and Parliament, will not see what you are trying to do and let you carry on?
Scrutiny of competition between nationalised and private corporations falls outside of the Fringe's mandate for now, sir. Our personal mandate covers the investigation of corporate malpractice, assessing the extent to which nationalised corporations currently serve the Crown, and intervening in choice cases pertaining to Bretonia as a whole - such as this one. As a pressure group, our mandate of course flexes and shifts depending on the context of the time and the composition of our supporting membership. The same could be said for political parties, or even the government. As for your second and third statements... You sir, disappoint me. You would stoop so low as to accusing a loyal and respected group of treason? Because yes sir, we can read between the lines - we can see what you are quite obviously and sickeningly insinuating. We would certainly hope the Bretonian public realises what we are attempting to do here, too! That is the whole point of a public petition, is it not? This petition will be allowed to continue due to the righteousness of our cause and the inalienable concept of Freedom of Speech. You will not besmirch that, by muddying the debate with ulterior motives and cheap insults at our person.
' Wrote:Could it be that you lot think that if you won this you will then try for something bigger? Planetform next? The removal of Interspace Commerce from Waterloo station? Get rid of Cryer Pharmaceuticals from Cambridge?
Where would it end?
Oh do please cease and desist with this alarmist twaddle. As I have previously stated, our motives are utterly transparent; "to have an unjust situation rectified and the Canterbury junction trade lanes renamed as they should be." Should some kind of... Oh, I don't know, mega-station that could synthesize Gold out of Toxic Waste be built next door to Scarborough or Southampton Shipyard, we would of course petition for those trade lanes to be renamed too. Beyond this relatively simple point, I am appalled at the scaremongering you would descend to in order to win a few meagre points for your cause. "Planetform next", "remove Interspace", "get rid of Cryer". As I said to Mr Henderson, "you'd think we were requesting that Gateway's employees be rounded up and put in camps, with the directors being shot". We are not demanding your eviction. We are not calling for your imprisonment. We are not screaming for your death. We are civilly requesting that a shortcoming in the New London trade infrastructure be correctly and properly rectified. "Planetform next" indeed...
' Wrote:You are, of coarse sir, completely correct. A sham is all this is. There is no worth in this so called petition at all except for the thinly veiled excuse to demean good, loyal, upstanding citizens of Bretonia by some daft, low iq'd excuses for human beings.
Although i will say it seems that a lot of Bowex pilots seem to fall into this catagory.
But that is another argument for another day.
Thank you sir. The Bowex Fringe appreciates having its person attacked, in lieu of its propositions and concepts. Thank you sir, indeed. I am sure the pilots of Bowex - who in no way are we affiliated with - have their own opinions on the matter. We cannot be held liable for their, an outside source's, comments. I'm afraid the petitions stands, sir.
