When using the Merc ID to assist pirates, how does that work? Is there a unwritten rule about a fixed sum for helping out, or would it be acceptable to say "I'll help you out if I get 10% of the score of whoever you/we pirate"?
It's an acceptable deal, but no matter what this kind of deal has to be settled between the mercenary and the employer when you are hired by said person, not after.
If you are a mercenary hired by a pirate, remember that you'll be considered as an unlawful mercenary and lawful forces are free to engage you past this job if you are caught by them, either directly or via a complaint to the authorities by the trader.
A second reminder is that you are NOT allowed to engage a trader unless your employer (pirate ID'd character, or faction pirate) is being fired upon by the trader. Escorts are free game.

Alright thanks. Better be safe than sorry (and better to sort of these things on the forum, instead of in-game). Thanks for the help.
Edit: How about CD'ing, does that count? Can I CD a transport, for instance, without said transport having fired at the pirate? Also can I CD when the transport has already stopped and the pirate is making his demands?

Pilot carrying this ID is a Freelancer Mercenary, who:
1. Can fulfill bounty contracts.
2: Can trade and escort traders.
3. Cannot engage in piracy, but can provide security services for pirates who are pirating if paid to do so.
4. Can only fire on traders in self-defense or if the trader fires on or is bountied by the Freelancers's employer.
5. Cannot demand contraband unless specified in employer's bounty
6. Cannot use any transports with more than 2,400 cargo
If you are a freelancer in a Gunboat, bomber, fighter, and you are employed to take out transport class ship, you can blow them out of the sky. Just be very VERY sure the transport are doing exactly what your employer has contracted you to do. I only have my experience that backs this up.
We also had a long debate over on the fly contracts/agreements in space. To the best of my understanding, if you are helping Pirates pirate a trader, you cannot fire on the trader/transport. Only defend the pirates when the police/bounty hunters/other mercs come to stop them. Point 3 is pretty clear on this.
3. Cannot engage in piracy, but can provide security services for pirates who are pirating if paid to do so.
I don't see any avenue for you with a Freelancer Merc ID to actually attack the party being pirated.
Yes, if the transport manages to down your shields 50%, they just engaged you and you can "defend" yourself, aka, blow up the transport. Better take a lot of screen shots to this affect.
Sometimes, when all you want is to gain your freedom, you must be willing to risk it all.
Alright the thing is I am going to play with a noob friend who has a ptrans and would like some help. So in case my friend pirates someone, and I help him out for a 10% cut, if the person my friend is pirating starts blasting my friend's/employer's ptrans (or me), I am free to open fire, correct?
And how about those on-the-fly bounties? If my friend says "I'll pay you 2 million to blast this guy in his transport, so I can beam up his cargo"/"As of now there is a bounty on this transport. Go shoot" is that alright according to #4?
And about #5 it seems like an employer can draft a contract that will make the Merc into a pirate, essentially, no? In that case should such a contract be recorded on the forums, or can that be done "on-the-fly" too?
And also, does CD'ing count as attacking in this case?

Well yea, you're defending your partner from getting killed by a transport. I have a hard time with this as its bad enough for a transport with less than 10 guns to defend itself against one bomber, let a lone two. a Ptrain is a match for even a Gunboat. Unless that Ptrain is in some serious trouble, just protect the Ptrans from the Transport defenders. If that Ptrans really needs support to take out a craine or something like that, time to look for other work.

This is the bane of transports. As said before, it's hard enough for a transport to get by one bomber or Ptrain or even Roleplay *gasps* with one. Having that much firepower also attracts more attention than say a single Ptrans or bomber would. So get ready to face a small fleet of angry battleships.
In short, yea you can, but really, a PTran should be able to take out any transport. Just -try- to be fair and support/protect the Ptrans.

CDing is not an attack in ANY case. But it really angers people to attack you as CD'ing is a prelude to attack but it, itself is not an attack.

Yeah the thing is my friend is a total noob RP and fighting-wise. He rage-quitted this game before because he was running silent and got blasted up by pirates who kept saying "cut your engines" and gave him a million chances to survive had he just replied back. So I thought I would help him out RP-wise and also make sure he get a bit of training without getting killed off right away, to keep him from rage-quitting again:-)
And yes, it is funny though that everybody assumes that pirates don't roleplay, when in most cases it is the other way round IMO. I have walked away from both pirates and Wilde undamaged as a trader just because they were so happy that someone actually answered them back.
But pirating is hard work, and if you don't act at least 20% like a douchebag, you will make no money and/or get shot down by traders saying "wait a litl I knw no inglish and use googletrnslate" while they are contacting hunters or freelancers to save them. As a pirate, if you give people a break, they *will* screw you over.

You cannot place a bounty on the fly. All bounties must be posted on the forums.
' Wrote:You cannot place a bounty on the fly. All bounties must be posted on the forums.
7.1 All bounties must be posted on the forum. If you attack another player to claim a bounty and the bounty is not posted on the forum, you are open to a PvP abuse sanction.
Mercenaries, freelancers and bounty hunters may be hired on the spot in game to assist with a combat without a forum post. The other parties involved in the combat must be made aware of this.*

This is not a bounty.
A pirate cannot, for example, be sitting next to a mercenary and "bounty" any trader who comes along using this method.
