So basically from a personal point of view, my favourite way of accumulating credits is by mining.
Now we all know that the profits are the best you can get in game. Much better than trading.
The trouble is that the management continue to apply various tweaks to make it more difficult to solo mine.
The new NPC threat is the latest gambit. Does it work? No it don't. I can still mine and F1 like I always have.
The argument is of course that mining is supposed to be a social endeavour and if this were a feasible option then I would find it commendable but I'm afraid it isn't.
Like others have said on this forum, when you want to mine there just isn't anyone else around to 'interact' with. Believe me I spend far too much time on this server and I know.
Please don't try to deflect me towards the 'official faction' thing because it doesn't suit me and there would still be massive parts of the day where no faction buddies were available.
The disappointing thing really is that the mechanics of mining are really good at the moment. Everywhere I go the yield is great. Fill up in no time. Why would this be? I think the answer is that people have been put off because of the trivial obstacles placed before solo miners. This dumb drift thing. What is all that about? Ok you have to travel 40k to get back to the middle of the field but what's that cost, about 90 sec?
The original argument I believe that nerfed mining in the first place was that mining was too lucrative. Yet it's just as lucrative as it was now. This whole social mining thing is a failed cause as far as I'm concerned.
So basically kill the drift crap.
Lose the NPC thing
Accept the fact that solo mining is far more popular than the quasi social ideology.
People are playing this game to have fun, mining is hardly a part of having fun, since most people do it to grind for a ship they can have fun with. Thus, mining will never get more social, it will simply get less people to live out their will to have fun, which would be the point of being here, simply because laziness is even more tempting when you're playing a game.
If people were to mine to have fun, you wouldn't need all these tweaks to get people to work together.

In other news, I agree with the OP.
(... and communism also is bad:)))
I endorse the idea of group mining, and feel that solo mining was too profitable before.
That being said, the nerf on the hegemon was too great IMO. A simple price adjustment would have been adequate.
I mine during low pop hours, when there is no interaction to be had, so all I do now is fill up my trader (the legal way, not multiboxing), and carry the load to its destination.
It takes me an additional 20 minutes or so, but I also carry 4800 gold ore now as opposed to 2700, so the entire idea behind the concept is flawed IMO, with all due respect to aeterneus.
I honestly miss the "Dublin Era". Yes, there were many lulz and lots of wuts, but the overall feeling was a vibrant economic system filled with lawfuls and unlawfuls alike. How often did I use to jump into Magellan from Leeds wondering what I was going to find on the other side. Now, I'm assured no one will EVER be there to spice up my run. If they wanted to increase player interaction with the changes, I think they've failed in that respect.
Make Hege 1700 if you feel it was too strong (and it was IMO), but don't force me to find someone to mine with when there are 70 people on the server.

This was another anti F1 transfer ploy that doesn't work.
Well, it does work as intended. It prevents pirates from logging on right in the middle of a mining field within CD range of miners.
It also prevents codehunters from logging on right next to wrecks and allows for a race before looting.
It prevents people from F1ing their ships in bottleneck areas to catch people instantly upon logging on.

it's the way people do it that flaws.
(also , do i hear political???)
Why do we call 2+ people working together communism?
