Since a vast majority of you probably don't pay attention to the Freelancer community at large, I thought I'd repost this pack of starspheres made by the talented Hunor.
They retain the vanilla starspheres' look and feel, while making them much, much more beautiful.
Installation is easy, simply extract the rar somewhere, then copy the DATA folder into your FL directory (So it merges with the existing DATA folder; overwrite all files).
You can change the grid lines of the navmap using one of the other folders, this is completely optional. Simply do the same as you did, except with the INTERFACE folders (Drop it inside DATA so it overwrites)
It appears to be Disco-safe, anti-cheat didn't have an issue.
Still, use at your own risk, I take no responsibility for anything that may happen while using this.
I'll make a backup of my current starspheres, but anyway, did you notice any effect on fps rate?
Not from my very short tests (anti-cheat and working at all tests:P) but unless you're running on a junker PC you shouldn't have any issues.
They're HD textures, so obviously if you barely run FL to start with installing this is not a good idea.
Wow I may have to invest in this one!
Does it at least keep the respective 'house colors' for the systems... IE New London still being mostly red and Liberty having a lot of blues?

Given the size of the pack, I'm not sure the devs would want to add it to Disco (I only posted it here as a nice addon), but if they want to, I'm pretty sure Hunor has released it as free use in mod projects, from his comments on the thread.
Only checked O-49 and Dublin so far.
49 isn't as bright anymore (thank god), but the sphere looks a bit grainy, imo.
Dublin isn't as orange/bright anymore, and looks absolutely awesome.
