Ok simple idea- each transport could be converted be more battle capable how- using cargo space for the guns.
Simple by adding new kind of transport guns:
-Make transport MK5 Turret that takes 800 Cargo and double the DPS output of Transport Mk2 Turret for the same energy but 1400 speed.
-Make Transport EMP Missile that works simular to GB missile but with better EMP capabilities and better refire.
-Make 200k Transport shield that takes 1000 cargo.

I guess you have the main idea- the proper cargo rates and gun/missile/shield rates should be brainstormed by the Dev team. I know that is is hard to balance and one could just say ok better take escort or scout but this second tier more powerful guns would make transport class more customisable and general more fun to play- it would eliminate the boring balance- "one transport dies vs one bomber"
This idea would give convoys better options vs Bombers and would make Transport pirates scary again since the P-transp got nerfed and GB buffed so Transport Prates just disappeared. Comments?

It was general example just to present the nature of the Idea- I dunno really if it should be 2000.
It depends on the recharge rate and energy drain much- if it have the same as 100k one I would rather not use it for 1000 cargo or use more evasive 3k Range transport with 30k shield.
It is hard thing to balance- because on one side it must be better then normal equip- however it should not be overkill as cargo space-otherwise none would use them.
May be shield is too hard to balance may be only guns and missile are good choice. I also does not see them as low price parts- I see each gun at 20m and such kind of shield for 50m- so they would be not first choice if you go for credit per second- they should offer security/attack capability on higher price. Other Ideas?

I wouldnt mind seeing a transport Battle Razor, or a tougher shield for the battle transports.

By loosing cargo capability you modify the transport class vessel that would make X amount of credits per hour into something else that would make X-amount of heavy battle capable defend/attack systems. So in general nothing changes- people that fly for credit/second only wont use this items anyway,however other people that does not like cruisers and such to pirate their convoys would use it to eliminate the cruiser for example. In general it adds variety and more modular design for transports that might change the encounters and make all sides more happy.

I think the point of this is to make transports able to defend themselfs effectivly at the cost of thier ability to trade in any meaningful amount. Cramming all the cargo space with weapons and equipment.

I think its a good idea. You could use these ships mixed in with other transports to act as decoys that pack a punch when the pirates don't expect it. Things like 1 normal transport and 1 kitted out transport together, pirate attacks thinking its just a pair of traders. And the kitted out one rips his head off.

Sacrifice cargo for super guns/equp on Transports? We have it....its called Gunboat.
now seriously, small missile turret would be good (66% GB missile) and Battle razor gun too. Just dont consume too much cargo. I still want to haul my RP :]

I've always seen Liners, not Transports, as the ideal "Poor Man's Capship", for various reasons. Namely, they look the part and have some bite.

My suggestions being only certian types of transport should be good for piracy (freighters in general should also be balanced toward this, for rule of cool). Namely the Slave Liner, Prison Liner, PTrans, Raba, DL, Pelican, and Similar unlawful pirate transports an whatnot should get powercore/armor/weapon buffs and cruise disruptors.

On the other hand, your garden variety Heavy Tankers, Adv Trains, and basic house transports are designed for lawful shipping of goods, so they're best used for that purpose. Still however, I fully approve the ability for pirates without access to capships to be able to use transports more aggressively. But the changes should be made on only certian types of transport that have the background as pirate ships.

That being said, Transport guns should get a bit more variety, simply because they only have like 10 kinds of guns compared to... alot more than that, for any other ship type. Even if they're just aesthetic alternatives to what is there now, but Transport Missiles, and slow-firing 'artillery' type guns for shooting bigger ships would be a welcome improvement for the enterprising transport captian on the go.

Alternately (or also), just give Transports the option of using fighter turrets.

All that begins must end.
