*Cackles maniacally* Honor among thieves. . .*Wipes away a tear*. . .Oh, oh that's a good one.
In all seriousness, pirates have been, are, and will continue to pirate in fighters. Be it because they don't feel a gunboat takes enough 'skill' or they can't afford one, or they're a better fighter pilot than a 'cap pilot.' However you tilt it, there will always be pirates out there in fighters.
I've seen some that'll strip me to my crew compartments in seconds, and some that I've casually hit 'H-Spacebar' and blew them from the sky. Don't even assume they're all the same kind of fighter pilot, that loses you your cargo.;)
You've only met fighters? You're lucky. Just wait until you meet a bomber with a Mini. Then you'll become a fireworks display if you play it wrong >.>
Seriously, an adequate bomber pilot can shred a transport in seconds. No contest.

I've fried a fighter and chased off two bombers, nearly destroying one. I also eventually stopped for a gunship that chased me across a system and a half just because of his persistence - found out when we finally stopped that he was only after 50k anyway.
If someone catches me in a fighter when I'm alone and actually tries RPing it instead of firing on me without saying a word or giving me the generic "x mil or die" crap, I'll consider playing along and letting them come out of it with some money. Even if it's a Dagger or Bloodhound - hell, I might give them extra just for being brave enough to pull something like that.
If they give me the generic "x mil or die" crap and they're in a fighter or otherwise heavily outgunned, however... ALS's maintenance crews will be busy for a while getting fighter fragments out of the hull of the Cerulean. A lot of the people who try taking the easy way out of it seem to underestimate transport turrets.
Pirates whom pirate for RP :P; regardless what they are flying are a real asset to the server.
Those pirates, that pirate just to make money, to in able them to purchases BS :angry:
' Wrote:As a trader my character will always be looking to escape a pirate. However, as a player my outlook is a bit different.
The lanes can be quite boring and I enjoy a bit of RP banter with a pirate from time to time to break up the monotony (though Im not too quick with good RP replies all the time).
On occasion Ive been known to purposefully take a trade run through an area that (as a player) I know has pirate activity in hopes of an encounter.
If a pirate says 2 mil or die I might just open fire and try to run. But if theres something about the pirates opening lines that strikes me as potential for some entertaining RP then there just might be a slight malfunction that halts my ship for a moment, even if it the pirate were in a light fighter.
For me RP is about interaction and having a good time, not just whats realistic.
I totally agree...while pirates add a necessary bit of spice to the otherwise tedious grind of trading its a pity that most of 'em consider, say, camping a gate to be a brilliant stratagy and "2m or Die!" to be RP.....here, as elsewhere [EVEonline/whatever], after the first wk or so ingame [and once out of of an exploding tin-can], anyone with half a clue can easily avoid/outwit them most of the time....Its weirdly amusing that traders should be "looking for trouble" out of a sort of boredom.....Sometimes if they're good at the dialogue my trader likes to try to bargain with 'em in character.."Ok,Ok I'll pay but you're cutting my throat on the profits here....how about..." etc etc.. Cowardly and obsessed with money, but of course! However that'll quite often get you blown up for "stalling"....In fact, though, you [not yr char] knows that buying some commodity at say 200 creds and selling at 1k+ means that all demands they make are unrealistic...like we could go "so blow me up and I lose 600k,big deal" .......so its the trader [like the willing masochist in kinky relationships] thats actually calling the shots...Then again too often its "2M!" followed by firing....sometimes my Bretonian Gentleman Trader will go down firing [as is "my" choice, heh once i even ejected my cargo and blew it up when out of bots and bats and near death, "Leave the buggers nothing Carruthers, nothing!" but I figure thats going a bit far...] rather than pay, yelling "God Save Queen Carina" and "Death to all Pirate Scum" because he is both a snob and an in-bred lunatic.....which is great fun too....
Anyway since here "Every cops a criminal and all the sinners saints"......quite literally! When I'm out making pie-rat mischief I at least try to keep it above the "Yarr"darm of bad dialogue but I 'm not much of an actor either.....On the side issue of which shouldn't only bretonian based pirates be all sort of Jack Sparrowish while the LR etc should I think be more like"Ok Yuze Guys, dis is a stickup!" kind of thing?
My Falcata once clobbered 4 Adv Trains sitting there firing at him plus all the Dragon NPCs that the server could throw at me (stupid TrainCDs:angry2:). If only they would have paid.
Not only did they all die, I killed most of them 3 or 4 times EACH because they kept coming back to the same spot. As I killed them they would squak "you can't kill me for 4 hours now!" and then they would die again...and again...and again...
Near the end I was running low on bots and bats and hull and patience. yes, I submitted to the dredded "2mil or die" because...well, I was under fire from every angle. If it's my first encounter with a trader though and they stop/don't shoot I'll say something more then the demand though.

Trust me ... pirates can't make enough to purchase a BS. If that's their goal ... you'll be a great-great grandparent watching your great-great grandchildren playing this game. A battleship costs 750 million credits and the license to go with it costs another 250 million credits ... that's 1 billion credits. They say doing math in public is bad ... but if I demand 500 thousand credits from every trader I see ... and get paid by say 10 traders in a day ... that's 5 million credits a day. On the other hand ... If I'm in that nice big tanker you traders like to fly with that 5000 unit cargo hold ... gee ... you make what ... 10-15 million in a single trip? And you make how many trips a day?
So ... a pirate might have a good day and make 5-10 million. But the trader can make 100 million (actually more depending on the time online). So ... who's actually saving up for that battleship?
Keep in mind TK9780 ... you cannot pirate in anything larger than a gunboat. So once a pirate has his gunboat and weapons ... he's pretty much done with his character setup and for the most part ... everything he does is role play. But then you do encounter a few that act more like terrorists.
Bottom line ... there's no money to be made in piracy. My pirate has a grand total of about 150 million credits to his name. And he's been pirating for quite some time now. No plans for any new ships ... so you leave me scratching my head as to what you plan to do with your riches. Something tells me I'll be seeing a new bounty hunter in a battle cruiser soon ... the kind that seems to like hunting pirates.
Never ending story ... now quit pirate bashing folks.

/seconded.
And as for the money, my one pirate manages to (barely) pay for himself and he keeps my other 2 OC chars (they're actually all the same person) funded.
Don't know what I'm going to do when I need to buy 2 GBs off of one pirates earnings though.

As the Pilot of the ALS)Onyx I've friend a few who had to "Pull Alongside for a transfer" because they tried to scalp me of way more then THE SHIP I AM FLYING IS WORTH. Thats what bugs me the Onyx is a Standard Transport not yet the Kusari Liner it should be and It's pretty ridiculous the stuff people try to pull "Give me 2 Mill or Die" "Sure pull alongside" *Broadsides* "How about you have fun drifting off in your ejector seat scum"
