Wireframes are good, but only if you can target / or hit the vital areas.
eg: on the templar it takes less time to just to pour fire into it.
on the avenger just shoot the tail off and it's easy.
The reason:
the templar's shield is mounted under the tail and it's really hard to blow it off.
the avenger's tail has the shield, the thruster and the turret mounted on it (think it also has the CM and mine dropper on it too).
Blow the tail off and it can't thrust away from you, it can't shoot you when your behind it and it has no shield (and possibly, it can't use CM's to avoid missiles or drop mines in your face).
I found all this out by attacking them in a wyrm LF. If I used a VHF then it wouldn't be a problem, I'd be able to blast them fairly easily.
But can't we just put wireframes on the ships that don't have one right now to make it fair?
I've been mildly miffed by one-shot weapons since their implementation, oh so long ago. I remember the days when fights were a matter of who could aim better, rather than who could aim a single shot. - Virus
Man its been "years" since I made the missle research. The experiment showed pretty clearly that original fighters from FL REALLY receive damage from missles , while the new imported models dont feel a SCRATCH. Actually its pretty easy for me to equp all my 4 fighter chars with a Talon , Raven , Slippy , And A RH bomber. Then i won't have that not comfortable disadvantage when my Titan meets a missle his hull to be drained like sh*t, usually loosing a wing or fin ... etc.
And try fighting a talon with swarms(wich do tons 'o lag) in a titan. Yeah thats right u are dead. Its not the manuverability - i have no prob with it. The lil pesky swarms do LOTS of damage to ur hull , just because they are missles. So a talon can win it only bu using a tizona or 2 for my shields and swarms for the hull. They track pretty good so its fire and forget there... REALLY NOTHING TO SAY MORE. Wile my cannonballs do nothing to the talon (giving that they hit it). This mod ain't a FL ships update anymore , its and imported ships mod. Yep... i stil wonder why i bother to keep my FL ships wile i can get those imported things...

Why do you think I prefer fighting NPC's to players?
NPC's use normal ships (most of them anyhow), so you don't get into a fight (unless there's lag) where you hit a fighter with enough missiles to kill gunboat (though when there's lag you can usually only fire energy weapons).

Personally, I have vowed NEVER to use Swarm. They are a cheap way to win in my opinion. When your enemy has 'em, you can't drop mines, fire missiles, and especially not torpedoes! The only way to fight is to kill them REALLY fast with ONLY your energy weapons, before they get blown off by the sheer number of missiles.
I've always found Swarm very, very bad weapons. And unbalanced. I keep with original ships and (mostly) weapons because I know I can beat almost anyone with it unless they have new ships/weapons, like Swarm Missiles.
Generally I go with one missile, Tizona, 4x other, a Nova(NOT for Dogfighting) and a screamer mine(or a ripper, can't remember which).
I've used the Super nova mine in a DF, I killed him instantly. I was simply thrusting when he was 250m behind and dropped two. Instant death.
Personally, the Swarm should be REMOVED. And supernova reduced slightly. It *IS* unbalanced. I've been beaten PURELY because they used ONLY swarm. NOT supposed to happen. And now that I'm thinking of this, I'm putting it in the Wiki as my opinion on changes....
Yep... come to thing of it im getting rid of my Talon. I bought it i saw it .. and i rejected it. Gonna replace it with a Hammerhead - now thats a sexy ship, who can put the fight to any ORGINAL fighter.Oh yeah... cant wait.

I don't know about Novas - I can reduce their damage radius and they won't damage capships, I can reduce their damage but this won't influence the fact that they remove fighter shield/hull with one hit.
As for Swarm, that's a terrible mistake of mine. I just compared damage of Swarm to damage of original missiles. Now Swarm is 3 times less powerfull.
I have never used swarms either. People can sit at the edge of a dogfight and shoot at whoever and eventually kill them. A weapon like that should have very small turn rate or non at all. Making it a bombarding missile against capships.
Just get rid of the swarm all together! its anoying... IF we put the turnrate to 0 it will STILL be able to be used aginst fighters ( when you are charging eachother) its a VERY annoying weapon Ive now swore that i will NEVER EVER AGAIN use the swarm.
