You noticed that omicrons are dead and failed only now?
Oh well, better late than never.
Reasons they died:
1. Same reason a lot of things died: Someone thought that they should die. Some people purposely re-arranged them to make them less active, in order to kill an acitivity hub, hoping that the activity would move elsewhere and make things better in some way, but instead the activity just straight out died. Not the only fun places that were killed like this. Other examples: the CR Taus, Dublin, Alpha and Gamma. Someone decided that noobs who have fun are bad, people who have fun pvping are bad, people who organize in mining are bad, people who organize as startegic pvp groups are bad. So they did the best to kill all that. They thought if they did that, everyone would become super RPers, enemy factions would talk and talk nd RP without pvp, and when there was pvp the super-cool people who deserved all the cool stuff would win and the super-stupid people who didnt deserve anything would always lose, and everyone would join together in a happy sado-maso phantasy. But it turned out that thier super-RP utopic ideals were actually super-unrealistic, super-retarded, and super-boring, and people would rather leave than play in the super-phantasyland that some people had set as a goal.
2. Systems were added just so it could be said that the mod was now a bigger explansion. But most of what was added was just copy pasted stuff that gave absoltely nothing "new" that was worth even discoverying, sucking the last bit of immersion, creating a world that full of places and station-npcs that were clones of a vanilla that generated more boredom and made you lose immersion more than they did anything else.
3. People left for additional reasons, making the places even more empty.
4. Mu, Zeta, o100: All systems filled with bases of one single faction, without a single base for enemies to land on, separated from the next enemy by hundreds and hundreds of Ks of cruising around. Can there be anything more boiring and fail?
5. Its not fun or easy to RP as a nomad, and even when you try you get spat on by people who think their RP is better just because they use the right kinds of [bla] (blub) -yack- *twitch* ***nag***
How to fix:
Nomad/Order shooting without any ***RP*** from nomads is fun. Alpha raids were fun. Gamma raids were fun. Order/BHG war was fun. Heck even Zoner drama was fun.
Things that are not fun:
YOU CANT DO THAT YOU CANT ATTACK ME YOU CANT ATTACK HIM YOU CANT GO THERE YOU DONT RP RIGHT WE NEED TO GET ALL THESE PEOPLE TO BEHAVE EXACTLY LIKE I WANT THEM TOO!!!
The black circles are system that are planned go away.
We'll need more than just that.
Hell, factions are dying because of devs.
The reason why, for example, [AI] is inactive is because there's literally nothing to do. The Omicrons are so crappy and stale that you're more likely to die to the boredom threat than the nomad threat.

I'm sure you pointed the right reasons but pointing them wont matter because you see no matter what we said devs don't listen to it. As you see in the map Tibbles posted the only system they are possibly trying to remove is the end points but not the useless crappy buffer systems.
Nothing is there really... considering that the community did a BHG/Nomad/Order event way back, I'd thought it might spark some activity. But Omicrons are dying... Hell even Minor is ALOT less active than I remember.
The black circles are system that are planned go away.
Is this official?
Uh, i just took the map from here. When I say they are on it I wanted to say they are working on it.
You've missed the point of that map. Systems coloured as black dots have, for gameplay purposes, been effectively removed - all but Omicron 93 and 96 are not displayed on the official sector map currently. The primary focus of the thread is the review of connections between systems. Feel free to offer as much feedback as you like once it goes live.

Karlotta's overly dramatized post appears to have blinded you to alternative possibilities. There is at least a precedent for deletion of empty systems. If undesirable systems were gradually depopulated by making them increasingly less accessible, then emptied of bases and other objects, then that would suggest...?
I would give +1 to Karotta and would suggest that devs use search in order to really read the suggestions and wishes of the community about the buffer systems. Leonidas is also absolutely right, the devs using search on the forum putting something like "remove eta" would find out that the community do hate the buffer systems since they were introduced 5 years ago.
Every two weeks there are new qq topics about the buffer systems it is not the community failt that you fail to feel the vibe about it and each mod version you more and more of them. Other useful thing would be to read my long post in the 4.87 map announcement topic. .

Alpha-Eta-Theta-Gamma combination was good, I say.
Eta had generouse cap missions, cap patrols- so you could log your MNS-Dreadnought, and farm some Osirises (during 85 it was godlike cool, I miss it more than anything ). So, there were some ppl, and Eta wasn't such...horrible place.
As I have heared, changing system connections, and adding additional Lambda system, with lots of crapy asteroids, has been done, because of lot's complaints about endless raids, capspam and other madness. If Im wrong, pleas, point me into right direction.
About the Order.... Remember huge OORPish LNS raids into minor, and fight back them in Alaska. It was fun, it was cool, ppl were logging in and so on.
Now, Toledo got owned like Sasha Grey during her working hours.... and Omicron minor now pointless huge size system. Nobody wishes to fly there.
