A bribe won't get you the tag though. Might I reccomend Freelancer missions? Hear me out before you jump, scream and cry telling me they're induviduals not a faction.
Let's say this is Omicron Theta, there is a mission for Freelancers in the bar against Corsairs. Mission description would go something like the following.
"Earlier today I got jumped by a wing of Corsairs, so I'm hiring you to take them out. I last saw them at E2, so I want you to go out there and kill them. Kill them all. You'll have no support on this mission, so stay frosty out there."
You'd earn some cash and Freelancer rep would improve (of course this isn't really logical but nessicary for game mechanics. I suppose it would be like Hitch Hikers being freindly to you because they's heard you'd given lifts to lots of Hitch Hickers in the past). For Freelancer missions I would reccomend flooding Manhattan and Fort Bush with them for the new players. Freelancer should be the most common tag you see in the game, but it's one of the rarest at the moment.
Having lots of reletivly easy, well paying Freelancer missions might help to have more of these 'indy' traders properly tagged as well. Think of the benifits!
this make perfect sense. Freelancer missions should be in a lot of places, and as you beat the you gain reputation as a freelancer, and you can bribe some agents to increase your reputation for you. Its very Rp.
Some say that he is allergic to a fungus found only between the toes of Corsairs,
and that he is oblivious to 98% of Liberty Law. All we know is... He's called the Busdriver!

/signed. Just one thing to add:
If this is done - and I really want that to happen by the way - we need to make Freelancer rep unaffected by other factions. I'm tired of having to deal with retardedly overpowered Stilettos in Omicron Alpha because I killed a bunch of bounty hunters. Especially since I fly a Scimitar.

Yeah, here's the screens to prove it.

Now, to those of you who don't understand the significance of this... those were taken in Omega 58. That is arguably the most dangerous system in the game. It houses Wilde fighters with the firepower of gunships and the hull of cruisers that fly in horrifying swarms, Scorpion gunboats, easily the best gunboats in the game, and is, in essence, the Wilde "guard" system. Those weapons platforms are not even firing on each other. I find this very fishy. Perhaps this is why Freelancer NPCs like taking potshots at my Order gunboat...
I've never seen that weapons platform in o-58 I only saw the Wild base.
"I can go where i want cuz im freelancer, lolz!" kind of traders. But traders who do that, are allready police tagged and there isnt much we can do about it...

If they're violating a local law, they can be fined and/or killed. As you said, one tag or another isn't going to stop them.
Although other than Hiroshima, Omicron-100, and That System That Doesn't Exist, I don't know of any of these issues of that nature that've actually come up...
do ett. It really fits, and would fix some problems. And it dosent matter if indy traders fly all over the place as long as they have the right tag.

what if the freelancer ID would give you maxxed out Freelancer reputation, then you would not be able to change tag when doing other missions and you wouldnt need to get bribes or really gain reputation.
