And please people , Server dint become toxic because of set messages but because of toxic players .
1) My approach usually is "Pilot, cut your engine at once!" and see if he complies. If not - CD and elaborate, maybe shoot in front of him. Usually works, and if people do not speak english in an english community they should learn. Just memorize a few key phrases and you're fine. Practice makes perfect Overall people have to ROLEPLAY and not abuse the mechanics of the game for a "HAHAHA i got away stupid pilot!" - thats not RP. RP is about interaction, not doing whatever you want because you CAN. The question is: SHOULD you?
2) I agree. Toxic people are the key issue. That, paired with a lack of advertisement (face it, another certain space game is going free2play pretty soon...what are the odds of people even FINDING disco?), ensures a slow but steady player bleed.

In my 40 years of life i learn to type enough for my or any forum needs , you suggesting me to take a secretaries typing school now , just so i can type faster before fight in this game ?
Not really Angel type advice , i play this game to relax , not to to do any labor !
Everybody who remember last attempt of removing /setmessages know what will be the result.
1. People who barely RP will still barely RP just with more typos.
2. People who RP will still RP the same way they were so far.
3. Greetings between passing traders will be rare things again so space will be even less interactive. Also there will be more typos.
4. Engagement notices will be again full of typos again.
5. Police and law enforcers generally will start to be impolite again, because if you are slow typer, you don´t have time to write polite message so you have to start encounter with quick shouting like Stop there pilot!, otherwise the ship will dock/take lane before you finish your typing. Oh and did I mention there will be hell lot of a typos?
Whoever caused this, gg people! When you finally realize /setmsgs themselves are not a problem because they have minimal influence on how much player roleplay, and disabling them cause more harm than good?
How can you say that your english is good when you cannot type it? Are you telling me that when you speak you suddenly construct sentences properly?
It is expected for most people on the internet to type a standard sentence in less than a minute. If you need longer than that then no "secretaries typing school" will help you.

I mean, what is the problem with setmsg? The dudes that simply /1 /2 and then suddenly engage or the people that just use preset messages instead of writing things individually?

Don't give me the Angel b*****, I am not saying that you should go to school, but just learn to type faster by yourself. Also age is the lame excuse.
Ill put it this way to clarify my statement from before. I use setmsg to fulfil the rules when pirating. 90% of the time, and this was before setmsg, traders would use the time it would take you to type a message to just fly away. Can't CD and type at the same time unfortunately, so the longer it takes you to type, the longer the trader has to fly away. I would use a setmsg to tell the trader to stop after CDing them. If they stopped, they got a long and fun rp, if they didn't they got a few more setmsgs and then probably blown up. Over my time here, the restrictions and rules about pirating have gotten tighter and tighter, out of desire for more or better rp, but there has been no corresponding requirement for traders to do anything to rp. Silent trading is still completely legal on the server. As long as you only put the responsibility for improving rp on one side of the interaction, it will never really improve.
Server rules say you need to know basic English to play game.
No-were it say you need to know perfect English , and you need to type perfectly.
Because of that we don't want to make game to native ( or great with ) English users very easy and much harder to all else players , cause thats one form of racism , isn't ? Kinda like : "Native English users have good time , all else of you , tough luck , stick around if you can live with it , if you don't then get lost" !
Also, as a long time player and English teacher, I am amazed constantly at watching how playing disco helps non-English speakers improve their English. It would be a shame to make people feel like their level of English and it's improvement isn't enough for them to play here. Very rarely have I really dealt with people in-game who were trying to play and rp without enough English. Silent traders, yes, rpers, absolutely not.
As usual people are acting like the sky is falling. Laura put it nicely, not much is going to change. I've been playing Disco for 7 years without using setmessages no problem. And now that there's a keyboard shortcut to call targets, there's even less excuses. Nobody is expecting perfect English, but it's not that hard to type out a quick engagement notice. Give it some practice and you'll be able to type it faster than /l1 or /l2, because in the time it takes to reach across and find those keys I can have my engagement already out.
Stop the hyperboles of "Hello good sir, I see that you are an enemy shooting my friends, I would kindly ask that you stop that and give it a second thought. You refuse? Then I shall activate my weapons and assist my ally in dispatching you"
Nomads are a different story, but maybe let's just delete them from the mod entirely
