now my third idea,
Carriers should be slightly smaller than capital ships, and should carry two flights of fighters (four per flight) and maybe a flight of bombers (four) for defending themselves against capships.
Escorts should however be Player chars, not NPCs
ANd on to fighter description, i figure have the fighters be the faction's LFs and the bombers, be well a custom version (not too overpowered)
@how does one go about creating a custom cockpit (bridge on my carrier is gonna look like an actual bridge)
aren t NPC ships dependent on the system? or can you spawn ... lets say a liberty avenger in any system ( as a npc )
about the ammo - well, its set to 70, isn t it? - i wouldn t see a problem with launching 70 fighters sort of but it may cause massive lag. - allways think of the worst case... two carriers spamming a system in a short time with 140 fighters - just cause they can.
will the ammo of a fighter be identical to the cost of the fighter? ( if its only vanilla LF/HF its at least "only" up to like 500k a shot ) how will those fighters act when you fire a train CD... - that means, they turn red, but once you launch more fighters - will they turn red to you, too or red to the fighters that turned red before?
and there should be some way you can recover those fighters, like a real Carrier does.

EDIT: i think teh fighters on board should be a custom ship, like maybe a slightly scaled down avenger for the liberty carier, and maybe a scaled down templar for a bretonia one (no idea how that will work....bret ships are too ugly)
didnt read the whole thing, my time is counted atm, but
-it is possible to buy escort.
-the doors, can be animated to drop items in a fl vanilla battleship.
-there has been carriers who can carry player ships, and even limit number of player inside, fully functionnal and not bugged from what i saw.
How about guving carriers some superior fighter repair abilities? A bit like a repair ship - a MASSIVE amount of bots/bats mainly for combat refill use. Having only a few real capship turrets and rest - fighter-grade would prohibit using such vessels in head-on capship fights.
