Update : event time set to 19.00 gmt, instead of the initial 20.00 gmt.
Update : event didn't happen eventually, Del couldn't make it in time. Replaced with random furball. A new date is to be proposed in the next days.
In a few words, the BAF elected a new leader in the past few weeks, Del being now the point man, and to celebrate this what would be best than an event in game ? Simple plot : a parade in new London, Garibaldi's speech, clean uniforms, all in the line of the Bretonian protocol... except for the part where the Benitez invited themselves.
Organization team
Beunt, BAF high command
Denethman, BAF high command
Ronnie, Benitez elder
When, and who is invited
Sunday the 24th of this month, begins at 8.00 pm gmt
It'll be appreciated if the participants connect in advance (and especially the team leaders).
The Benitez and BAF should take a good share of the total roster but each party can invite buddies. Applications can be posted here but it is safer to contact the organization team directly. We mostly aim to a snubcraft dogfight with a couple of gunboats on each sides, with an target size of 10 pilots each sides.
Background
June 818 AS. After sudden Hamilton’s resignation for health reasons, and fully backed by Admiral Frazier, Admiral Garibaldi was eventually elected as the supreme commander of the Bretonia Armed Forces, in haste. Thanks to her bold and practical mind she immediately took the control of the BAF in firm grip, and the chain of command between Leeds, Newcastle and New London was quickly restored before chaos could spread.
As the custom goes, a parade in celebration of Garibaldi’s appointment had to follow. In those times of the history of Bretonia, this particular event was especially critical : after years of relentless bloodshed the morale among Bretonian youth was declining, and few of the younger ensigns - some were barely 16 by the time - ever heard of their new Fleet Admiral.
Garibaldi was not much into protocol and ceremonies, she was too bold and practical minded for that. Frazier and the Minister of Defense Ralston himself had to convince her, until she reluctantly accepted. She couldn’t know how much she would regret that decision later.
Then, by an afternoon later that month, the orbit of New London was unusually crowded with liners, gleaming fighters and inspiring speeches. Although Cambridge Space and Macroparticle Watch institute issued a warning about spikes of electromagnetic waves due to a proximate supernova 60 years ago, the BBC insisted to maintain that date in the name of audience - the civilian too needed to cheer. Among the forces in presence a few were picked from the northern fleet, but the Norfolk sent most of the attendees. It was done so to maintin a solid line against the Gallic invasion forces. However, a more ancient threat soon enough discovered that the doors were open for a strike that Bretonia will never forget...
Deployment, T0 : The Benitez forces start for one part in Cambridge (the planet, Norfolk of Cardiff, Benitez’s choice) and another part hidden in the southern asteroid field in New London. The BAF forces start in New London
Event 1, T+10 min : The Benitez begin their attack. A weak transmission alerts the BAF command that a massive fleet is attacking and dispatches a task forces to counter attack. The Benitez wing ambushed in New London stay out of sight and let it pass.
Event 2, T+17min : The bretonian task force engages the Benitez in Cambridge. The parade in New London is canceled. It turns out that the corsair attack is more serious than previously assessed. Garibaldi decides to personally oversee the operation from Battleship Norfolk. The admiralty liner and its escort leave New London orbit and head to the Cambridge gate.
Event 3, T+21min : The admiralty liner is ambushed on its way to the gate in the asteroid field, and a second battle is engaging. Garibaldi assess that she can win it and stands her ground. Even if she wanted too, retreating in that special day would deal a terrible blow to the BAF morale...
Event 4, T+90min : Timeout.
Rules of engagement
general rules :
NO CAPS, see below
Due to the electromagnetic storm raging in Bretonia the communications between New London and Cambridge during event 3 will be sporadic. Thus, no forces from one of the other system can assist the other team until their own fights are over.
The only exception to the rule above is to fix the possible imbalances.
Only when one or the other battle ends the victorious side can assist in the other system, yet to keep things fair they can do so only if their side is loosing it. They cannot refill in the mean time (note : hard to enforce).
Ships dead in one system cannot engage in the other one even if the server rules permit it technically
We're playing it old school : no repair ships, no run-refill-reengage.
Both parties must tell their opponents who is their team leader.
It is the responsibility of the team leaders to prevent and reject unexpected reinforcements.
Cambridge additional rules :
up to two gunboats allowed
New London additional rules :
snubs only, except if Garibaldi uses a liner
if Garibaldi chooses to fly a liner, the corsair may outnumber BAF ships by 1
Garibaldi cannot flee unless she’s the last one standing for the BAF
Conditions of victory
Primary victory is won in New London. Taking Garibaldi down alone is not enough, only team victory counts.
Secondary victory is won in Cambridge. The reward is for the survivors to help in New London.
Draw if at T+2 hours the New London battle is not over yet.
Needless to say, the real victory is when everyone had fun !
Recommandations
It would be preferable that both battles are waged in remote area to limit occurrences of random lolwuttery (because well, Bretonia has it too).
It is best if the team leaders are last target since they’re also the warrants of the smooth run of this event. Also Garibaldi should not be first target either : she’s the very reason of that event after all !
Preferred sizes for the battles : about 12 for Cambridge (6 per party), 8 in New London (4 per party). Those numbers can be adjusted according to the effective roster.
