It is hard/buggy to give each thruster different look since the thrusters are rather small and they must be used on very different size ships (capital ships and transports were not flyable in vanilla) so the fighter sized thruster is used on cruiser...
And if you encounter some one who is really hostile with you(outcast-corsair for example) they will RP with you with guns, no matter how good your RP is. Guns are part of the RP.
