The reason for it being this way is that this is the default Freelancer way, Disco just changed the number that was the limit.
Edit: It's the difference between being able just to change a number in an .ini and having to create a new plugin.
Btw, it can be done so that Military Vehicles and similar will also drop only what amounts to 3000 units of cargo space. The limit can be different per commodity.
I am quite ok with this limit. so the 5k traders if they have a little brain would give you 3k cargo and keep the 2k for them, it creates oorp tool for pirates not to demand all the cargo.
It will be nice if the Barge drops a bit more I see 10 000 drop really fun. You need 3 smugglers to clear it.
