3.4 Docking to a friendly base during battle

I believe I suggested something similar to this a long time ago but it met with similar responses. I also believe that if you want to be brave enough to attack someone at their own base, you suffer the drawback of dealing with the fact they can quickly re-provision themselves during battle. It should not take hours to repair, what about nonbots? They roll pretty quick, and time in-game is basically compressed, as with the scale of everything in the game.

To me, if the Outcasts attack IMG ships near Java, the IMG should be able to use Java to do just that and keep themselves going. Battles do go on for long periods of time. Think of what aircraft carriers were like during the 2nd world war, or the Battle of Brittain. Pilots would land during battle to rest, repair and reload, then relaunch in a short time to get back in the fight. In the end battles would not go on forever because eventually ships will still get destroyed, and its not like it would mean re-engaging after in indisputable inrp death. However, it would mean longer 'siege' style battles. And why not? This would be particularly cool at freeport 4.

In the end it could even be measured that if all ships from one side were either killed or docked (at the same time) leaving none left on the field, and the side remaining could declare victory and all opposing ships of the losing side would now be considered dead and have to follow the rules as if they died.

Stations should therefore actually be able to serve as protection, not just as weapons platforms to camp by, but as refuge for ships of that faction and their allies without having to 'kill' themselves. If you are in enemy space and have no where to dock, its just part of the risk!

this is a RP server, not a PVP server

As is stated everywhere, remember that PvP is roleplay too - if your role is to fight your enemies and/or defend your allies - not just talking.
I would very much like to have the chance to do something other than PvP, given fights would take an incredible amount of time compared to what they currently do (which is already a while, usually). Unless there was a serious and widespread increase in the use of insta-kill weapons over wearing them down with regular guns, there is no effective way of beating someone when they have effectively have infinite regens with no real danger in quickdocking near death.

One side gains the advantage by moving nearer to their territory because they are near to reinforcements and space-borne repairs, plus they have (or had, given the nerf) the support of NPCs, base guns etc.

As for TheUnforgiven points about the Battle of Britain, as I got at above, when you hit an old warplane it generally doesn't stand up very well, but if it does it limps off home. They didn't have a constant set of German bombers circling over British airbases to destroy them as they repaired, so they could escape (as we do in Disco by getting out of scanner range).
The point about carriers, well the comparison for Disco is a Carrier. Docking on a correctly-moduled ship does not count as a PvP death, and you can touch up the hull with a repair facility (but not regens, which would be taken via trade window). The difference between an NPC base and a player ship/real-life base is that the latter group can be destroyed to end that advantage.

Honestly, if it were possible, I'd love to set the same behavior on NPC bases as PC ones. If they're under fire, they raise shields and do not allow -anything- to dock for some 30 or so seconds. Not sure how the AI would react to that though, Freelancer has a way of crashing when trade ships arrive at the last end of their patrol, and can't dock anywhere.
