Quote:I second this. I think the POB's were great. To each his own they say, some people like to play just to keep their 'operations' ongoing. It was also a good economic stimulator for miners and shipping organizations, giving them something to do other than just bounce from npc base to npc base. Shipping materials that are actually going to use gives a bit of purpose, and again, provides a bit of an incentive to get the job done. Increased shipping volume = increased opportunities all around.
I echo this sentiment completely. There are no bases now and yet...there are still silent powertraders. So, obviously there's not an exact cause/effect there. If bases were to come back with some better regulations to help avoid the major problems that people had with them (i.e. placement near jump holes/npc bases, etc.), I think activity would pick up quite a bit.
Quote:I don't mind them coming back, as long as they're not automated by weapons platforms anymore and the base owners have to defend them themselves.
If people didn't fly around troll-killing bases for no reason...or just didn't attack unless it was a pre-arranged match with the faction/group that owns the base so they could actually have defenders present, then yeah...that wouldn't be a problem. I think the only people who have a real problem with automated weapon platforms are Bass(hole) Hunters who want to kill bases for fun while nobody is around (unless they are placed in an area too close to a jump hole/gate, trade lane, or base, as I already addressed).
