Suggestion on how to fix the scanners (keep the flames out!)

Local chat, docking messages and other stuff gets messed up by the uneven scanner ranges as well, and some say lag intensifies due to more NPC's being in scanner range for longer time.

An interesting and plausible point. If it is true then I'd say there's a valid case for taking the opposite course and reducing scanner ranges. Should be easy to test by temp turning off NPCs ?

i have no clue if it is true that it causes lag, im just relaying what i've been told (and people say a lot of different things regarding the cause of the lag), but the thing is we spend time discussing and maybe testing things regarding scanners, time that could be spent getting the lag under control. if i can choose between pink engines, cloaks, pobs, long-range scanners, gallia OR a lag-free server, I definitely choose the latter.

and it is annoying when people write you in local but you can't see them on scanners - im not sure if i should reply in local or in system for them to see my message so i tend to just stay quiet. its just nice to be able to see the avatar (or some sort of indication thereof) of the person you are interacting with, I'm old-fashioned like that.

back on point: maybe we should just go back to the way they were for the sake of simplicity?
