Planet Leeds Initiation of employment with Bowex:
July 17th, 763 AS
Job Title:
Director of Operations
Background Information:
Sir William Burke was born on Planet Leeds in 744 AS to one of Leeds' more prominent families. After his nineteenth birthday, he left Leeds for a career with Borderworld Exports as a midshipman in their trade division.
Over the following 10 years, William proved himself, and rose through the ranks until he was second in command aboard one of the company's larger transports. During that time, he was involved in a cargo loading accident which paralyzed him from the waist down. The medics were able to use implants and a exoskeletal frame for his legs (which he wears to this day) to restore his ability to walk. Unfortunately, he was no longer fit to serve aboard a ship. He took a position in administration, and quickly discovered his keen business instincts, which carried him through successive management promotions.
Eventually, Burke found himself on the Board of Directors, and when the previous Director of Operations retired, Burke quickly stepped into that position. Over the last 30 years in which he has held that position, William Burke has greatly expanded Bowex's influence in Bretonia, and has even been awarded a knighthood for his service to the Realm. Though some members of the Board have pushed for Burke's retirement, he has shown no interest in leaving the company, and will probably continue to serve as long as his health permits.

I am the rather pleased Andrew Maloney. Feel free to call me Andrew, or Maloney. Or anything else that takes your fancy. Well, apart from anything even remotely noodle-muncherish, and if you do I'll have to give you a jolly good dressing down!

Planet/Station of Birth:
Well old bean, I'm a born and bred New Londoner! I was born in the Hyde District near the regional spaceport, which is where the majority of company housing is also located, which is rather convenient, doncha think?
Initiation of employment with Bowex:
773 A.S. (My goodness, that was 43 years ago!)
Job Title:
Well, I'm employed as the Director of the Trade Division, which basically means I have to trudge through mounds of paperwork dealing with anything from fuel requests for our transports to promotions for our dedicated and loyal staff members! Jolly good thing too! Good lot in my Division, and some promotions are in order I believe!
Background Information:
Well, I wouldn't want to bore you with the in's and out's of my life, the dull tedium that it is, so I'll give you a run-down of the bits I consider rather 'important'.
Well, I best start with birth. I was born in 752 A.S. which puts me at the venerable age of sixty-four. On my eighteenth birthday I qualified as a pilot and enlisted in the BAF, which is a rather marvelous organization indeed! Absolutely splendid! After a three year service moving troops as a transport pilot, I returned to 'civvi-street' as the regulars know it and enrolled with Bretonia's premier trading fleet, Bowex.
I've served Bowex in my Percheron class transport for over forty years now, save for one month in the August of 800 A.S when I was scrambled back to the BAF, when those beer-swilling sausage makers from Rhineland thought it would be alright to put their fleet on maneuvers through Leeds.
And now we have the present day, with four kittens, a cat, a Percheron transport and a house on New London to my name. Rather dull doncha think?

I was born on planet Cambridge in a university campus. It was while my mother was visiting my father, a professor there.
Initiation of employment with Bowex:
816 A.S. in the position of a nav specialist.
Job Title:
Supervisor.
Background Information:
I spent my childhood in our country house. My father often worked for days at the University of Cambridge and I always begged him to take me with him. After much pushing he would yield sometimes and take me to the campus. The time at university gave me the happiest days of my life.
It was no surprise I went to the university as a student. I was on the Philosophic faculty, my father's branch. I wasn't a remarkable student, but I had reasonable results. After a while I was increasingly drawn to natural science and technology. I took a basic course in astrophysics and advanced courses in engineering and I gradually began to take more interest in this field than in history and sociology. I even managed to excel in a few subjects.
It was there I met that strange man. He was not a student nor a professor I knew. I spoke to him, intent on learning more. Soon we were talking about my interests in technology and space, I didn't even notice the turn in conversation from his purpose on the university to my proficiency in those areas.
He seemed quite interested in me and I eventually learned the reason. He mentioned that talented students often find a good starting position in Bowex. I understood at once - he was a Bowex representative. I heard about them, 'stealing' the best talents from the university and despised by the professors. They were usually promptly thrown out from the building when found. This one was lucky so far.
Security appeared round the corner and for a fleeting moment the rep's face acquired an anxious look. He quickly regained his composure, pressed a business card in my palm and walked away nonchalantly. I stood rooted on the spot, still surprised. Then I read the card and to my astonishment I found my name engraved in one corner. I didn't even tell him my name!
I always imagined I would stay on the university as a scientist and perhaps a teacher. This was a possibility I never thought about. I wondered if I should mention the incident to my father. I often talked with him about important events in my studies, but this seemed inappropriate. His branch was less affected by the loss of students, but he would probably share the common negative view on the company representatives.
My graduation was drawing near and I had decided - Bowex was to be my future career. The Cambridge Research Institute offered scientific research in my field, but interstellar travel captivated me and I was fascinated by the prospect of using, seeing and feeling the science myself. The time has come to tell my father. I feared the moment, and rightly so. Being a calm man, he tried to retain dignity. His features became stern and his voice strong but guarded as he said:
"I expected more, you are like your mother. You are throwing away your life, for what exactly?!"
"This is my life, and my decision. I never expected you to be so narrow-minded!"
His eyes twitched at the words and he clenched the side of a table. Then his hand shot upwards and he slapped me.
"Leave."

Initiation of employment with Bowex:
819 A.S. in the position of a Trader.
Job Title:
Hmm. have to see Mr Maloney for that.
Background Information:
The old man was a trader, and that runs in the family. He began with a battered freighter that did local trade runs near Cambridge, and earned a steady and honest living. My brother went into the University, and I continued in the business. Hunted around for a cheap transport, wandered all over Sirius with odds and ends for a long time. I still wonder what do they think of the Engine components that I once sold to the Hua Hua tribe in Gran Canaria. Probably using them for portable gods.
Then I upgraded to a Shire container transport, named it the Bright Lance, purchased a franchisee of Bowex, and the profits started rolling in. I contributed to the war effort by financing the rather excessive repair bills of my dear brother, who had inexplicably left his university to fight off Corsairs! The old bean has his wires crossed, I say. Still, he is alive, so far.
