' Wrote:I was thinking about Freelancer, and where all the houses originally came from. You would think that atleast Liberty should have some religion left, or did everybody stop believing in god when they fled from earth and the other planets?
Why do you assume religion is gone when it's not mentioned on every street corner? People adjust themselves to life, maybe religion adjusted itself to people for once. This is also some thousand years in to the future. Seeing how religion now has far less impact than it had 1000 years ago, you might assume that this trend continued.
If you want Religion in freelancer you can roleplay it yourself, there's nothing stopping you from doing that. Just because the developers didn't write it into the game or the story, doesn't mean it's not there, it just wasn't an important enough aspect to mention. Though don't count on any of the current religions still being around in Freelancer, they're like a fad really.
the way i see it, freelancer is mainly based upon nationalism, the way the original nations have behaved through history and stereotypes.
Example, Liberty (USA):
it's believes are mainly based upon capitalism and democracy, which is visible in the fact that they are the only ones who have a president. Also when people think of the USA more thinks that drop into there minds, Secret service (with all those conspiracy theories), cowboys (or rednecks), organized crime,...
for conspiracy theories we have zone 21 and alaska
for rednecks we have xenos
organized crime, there are the rogues (they are the only criminal organization that doesn't have a higher goal, they just want to make money)
So basically i would suggest that if there is religion in freelancer, it should be based upon the origin of the faction you want it to be.
someone is influated by to much movies. Homosexuality was aristocratic sin in Acient Greek civilastion. As rich people did not know what to do else.
Corsairs are Hispanian house. And well spain is almost the most religiuos christianity country in whole world. (perhaps becouse of renconcista). So I do believe it still has some traces of their old religion.

It's more due to Franco. The Anarchists and Marxists killed a lot of priests in Spain in the 30s.

no in sparta my friend.
Spartian males was living togeather separated from womans in barracks. Meetings with their wifes in order to have sex with them were almost every time planned long time before. Homosexuality was in sparta not even tolerated but directly suported because close relationships between soldiers (all Spartian males in productive age were soldiers) increased their coherence on battlefield. So homosexuality in Sparta was same common as books in library.
But be carefull, we can take their looking on sexuality same as is our... they wasnt gays as we understand that word in present times. Most of them was heterosexuals but their look on sexuality was different than ours. They wasnt having sex with other males (or womans... yep they has "lesbians" too) because they was atracted by same gender, they did it because it was just another social standard in their society.
Also... Spartians (I mean ppl with status of citizens) were not diversifiet on rich and poor people. Their had same social status.... they even hasnt money (their coins was from copper = useless behind borders of Sparta), cumulating of property was prohibited by law and showing trinkets or building unreasonable big or extravagant houses was unacceptable and persecuted. So homosexuality wasnt just phenomenon of rich people.
A lot of ancient civilisations or even more recent ones have vivid histories of Homosexuality.
A lot don't as well.
Pink also use to be quite a manly colour, even 500 years ago or so.
So really, as times change, different things become taboo or strange. Some become entrenched in the minds of others and with the ease of communication nowadays, it can be quite easy to be influenced to believe something whilst at the same time, it also is quite easy to diregard other beliefs.
Completely off topic there probably but the way I see religion in Freelancer would be this.
Christianity would most likely have gone down the current route it is going, with many people turning more towards other beliefs (including atheism, scientific logic things etc) but with the long war, people may have turned more to religion than ever.
A thing to remember is that it was mainly Westernised countries that made up the Alliance and hence the origins of the Sirius colonists. Religious freedom is something many of those countries are striving to maintain.
If you want a religion in Freelancer, use one other than the mainstream ones today. Whilst it may be realistic to use the current ones, it would bring an extremely volitile element into the mod that it really can do without.
I agree with Nighthawk, if you want religion in Freelancer then you can role play it yourself. If you`re a Christian (like me) then its more of a relationship with God rather than religion. (We Christian`s don`t class Christianity as a religion.) I myself have one or two characters and this one (Combiseries) is the Christian one, as I role play myself when I`m not in the mood for role play. (Strictly in a roleplaying sense mind.)
If there is a Christian faction on Freelancer then I would definitely join, but as this is a role play server, then I don`t think it would work as our purpose as Christians is to bring home the lost to God, and I don`t think that would work if we`re all acting out different characters.
In actual life every great enterprise begins with and takes its first forward step in faith...
