People like their rules to be clear cut and simple and the only way that's possible for a rule like that is for a yes or no attitude. If it changes people will push it too far just because they can, and if it gets a partial restriction left on it people will complain that they didn't know what they were saying was excessive. The way it is now is for the best.
' Wrote:This has my full support. It's rather silly to restrict our characters from doing perfectly human things like swearing and having sex.
"Oh, yeah, I'm a grizzled, hard-core war-veteran space-pirate, but gosh-darned-it-golly-jee-willikers I could sure use a hug from a respectable young lady and maybe we can get married!"
Actually, there's nothing in the forum rules that keep a character from a habit of swearing or having sex. A character can be salty without breaking the swear rules & can be sexually titillating w/o being pornographic.
I think it's funny how we're in an environment where people are encouraged to use their imagination & yet many flat out refuse to exercise it with occasional claims of over restriction.
If someone finds themselves pissed that the rules restrict a characters freedom of expression, that's a personal lack of ones imagination & no ones fault but their own.

Having unnecessary regulations on post content restricts the range of tools a writer has to create characters and stories.

You don't need the guy to use the entire list of swear words in two paragraphs to be a good writer, nor do you need to actually be explicit with the sexual content.
I think those restrictions make us use your imaginations more to find appropriate ways to say so.
Instead of F- YOU, go SCREW YOU, FRAKK YOU, etc.
Seriously.
We have 048-128955785193202934 other ways to say F YOU in English, why do you insist on wanting the curse word one?
And if you absoultely MUST RP a sex scene, you can always use Skype, no? >_> Why MUST IT BE ON THE FORUMS?
I think language should be restricted, but there should be crystal clear guidelines to keep people from inadvertently breaking the rules. It should also be enforced on a consistent basis. The reasons for having restrictions was said quite well by the 'Burg in post #9.
