But if this is the direction we are going, with official factions having some input into their diplomacy, then this specific scenario is perfectly reasonable.
Slightly contradictory statement here... Anyway, it's not like the tech is going to get used against them. If a corp shoots another corp with BHG tech, then it's really about who's pulling the trigger, not which weapon is being used imo.
As to the pirate ID; I'm disappointed by unlawfuls hacking against them. I hope that most (unlawful) factions don't do it because it's quite presumptuous and can't really account for the roleplay of different individuals.
Molly RP for years has been that they don't like generic pirates. This goes back more than two official faction iterations prior to the current [M]- Mollys. I personally can't recall any time back through to .82/.83 version of the mod where generic pirates were welcomed with open arms to Molly bases.
FR5's only work so well. A single bribe and they're back, or they change ship names or create a new ship, etc. Fact is, Mollys don't like generic pirates muscling in on their turf. I see no reason inRP nor OORP which would mandate forcing Mollys to permit the generic pirate ID to dock on their bases. In the last two years I'm aware of good relations with two pirate groups, neither of which has RP'd with us beyond some tech requests more than five to six months ago.
Hessians, Outcasts, Lane Hackers, Liberty Rogues? Sure, we have inRP relations with them dating back to vanilla. They can dock on our bases for trade or equipment, but we don't like them to pirate within our territory. For the most part, they abide by it. The generic ID'd pirates do not.
For further reference, here is an image from the Molly BB:
and here's one showing the text of the Molly ID:
The Mollys have every reason inRP to request the rephack. If you have some specialized RP and want to be excluded from the rephack, contact us and we'll work something out. For tech requests we can provide arms from a supply shire, and for ships it's not a problem to put on a recruit ID in order to dock and make the purchase. In a previous post someone mentioned a character being an ex-Molly who turned pirate. Well, use a Molly ID as an indie then. If your character quit the Mollys to just be a pirate, there's no guarantee that the character would be welcome at any Molly base.
While this may be off putting to some for their pirate characters, it's a necessity brought on by continual abuse of Molly bases by pirate ID'd ships. As it stands, we're hoping that it will be helpful in the long run. If it's not, it can easily be set to change and go active at a server restart - no mod update is necessary.
As it stands, however, by RP and ID, the number of generic pirates welcome at Molly bases are very few and far between. Why should the Mollys not be allowed to restrict access to their own bases from an ID that has been a continual problem for years in the majority?
' Wrote:That wasn't a specific criticism of the Mollys; just expressing that I hope other factions don't do the same without reason.
Understood. I was just explaining why the Mollys made the decision they did. I can't speak for the LWB, and I'm not encouraging other factions to follow suit.
Hi sorry for barging in, but I got three questions:
1. So this means that Pirate ID'd characters won't be able to dock at any Rogue and Molly bases, correct?
2. If so, this is going to affect pirate traders drastically, as there are few commodities good for trade between unlawful stations, and most of the more attractive commodities are coming from/going to Rogue bases. Are there any plans on tweaking the trading system accordingly?
3. Again if (1) is true, is this going to be backed up with RP from for instance the LR, more than just the "you got to prove your allegience and do what the LR say" kind of thing that's been going on for a while? My indie pirate character has helped out the LR (and lost his ship) countless times, been asked to join Rogues as a wingman on various raids and so on. My character has sort of seen this as a "quid pro quo" thing, and have accepted doing a little extra for the Rogues when working in Liberty, in return for a safe haven. If I am going to have my docking rights removed just like that, I'd rather see Rogues being downright hostile with me in their RP, so I can shoot at them/pirate them with no qualms whatsoever.
