I was going to make a post about it in the 'Ideas & Feature Requests' thread but I figured making a specific thread would be better because I'm interested in reading what others may think about it.
So...despite their small size & limited resources, you'd think that with their scientific origins, Gaians would be at the forefront of biodome implementation...at least moreso than the Zoners, right? I mean, don't get me wrong...It makes perfect sense that the Zoners would put them to heavy use being the boondockers they are, but it has always seemed to me that Gaians would do everything in their power to mimic a natural environment in space as much as possible and be THE faction that has the know-how to perfect the tech.
If I had more drive to communicate this with the dev team for the past 5 years, this train of thinking may have gotten legs by now to the point of implementation, but I've never consistently pitched them about it & tried to up the priority with 'em (hell, I don't even keep onto them about updating the Islay & Claymore infocards) but, I own my laziness & I personally consider it 'my bad'
Anyway, now that updating the look of vanilla stations is much more kosher, I'd like to hear what people think of the possibility of biodoming the Gaians.
This is kinda hard for me to explain, but I was flying past Arranmore in Dublin not too long ago & I was reminded of an old idea I had when I was developing the concept of my Green Hell watering hole (it's a large cavernous biosphere in Islays basement)
Anyway, I had the idea of a 'Gaiasphere'
Try & imagine a rocky station like Islay at its core, & spoking outward from it in all directions are connected biosperes.
spaced properly, In my head, I imagine the biodomes would encircle the station, mostly hiding the rocky core from view with the exception of openings large enough for docking. For instance, imagine something like the surface of a small Death Star but with trees & stuff.
Anyway, giant dream stations aside...like I was saying, Gaians & biodomes: What think? Why or why not?

The Zoners don't actually build their own biodomes though - they purchase or rent them from Synth Foods, who also supply the crops that they produce (Synth Paste).
That said, I'm not opposed to sprucing up the visual appearance of more vanilla stations. Can't see why the Gaians would divert resources into biodomes when they could be doing more practical things with them though.
The CoE has plans for a long time to ask the Gaians if they'd be interested in a joined effort to make biodomes.
The Gaians have the knowledge , and the Sairs have the resources and need.
Well, the way I see it, I can't imagine why the gaians wouldn't spend decades implementing biodomes into their aesthetic.
To be clear, my point of view on this at the most basic stems from imagining the progression of their culture for 70+ years of criminal status & multi-generational separation from Bretonian society. For lack of a more eloquent way to put it atm, despite the simplistic stereotype alot of people default to of the gaians being a bunch of pirates that focus solely on watching over a single planet, I imagine instead how the gaians live their lives & how that affects their evolution as a whole over time. I simply believe that their living environments should better reflect what they historically fight for.
@ bearsair- yeah, I like that idea regardless of my longtime anti-sair leanings:yes:
Actually, I'm not entirely clear what you mean by this...could you plz clarify by expanding on it?
As far as vulnerability goes, I don't see that as a deal-breaking issue as (with a single exception) Gaian stations are field hidden & not subject to large scale cap attacks on any regular basis...therefore, stations w/ b-domes should be considered just as protected inrp as they would be without 'em.
Plus, even taking vulnerability as a primary consideration...at the very least, imho, as the seat of the faction, the 3 stations in Faroe should have domes coming out of their ears:P
Biodomes seem like a good fit to the Gaians as it prevents them from having to meddle in planet's ecospheres to create farmland (I'd guess they are low emissions too).
I doubt they'd be ones to buy them from Synth Foods of course, but the alliance with the LWB can bring in their hydroponic technology. Merzig Depot in the Saar system is supposed to be the shining beacon of all space-based food production, and a similar station could be created in Faroe.
biodomes enable humanity to spread into areas where nature does not let them go unaided
This slipped my mind too and made me start hesitating.
At the other hand , the alternative is cultivating planets , with all the pollution and loss of bio diversity.
