I think that if some drive or plea for donations to raise the necessary funds to buy protection could work well. As this is affecting us all I'm sure many, many in the community, myself included would be happy to donate even a small amount towards it. With the incentive of a stable return to service I'm sure we could do it.

Is there a relavent thread already setup that's the best place for Nomad tech feedback etc? I've encountered a problem which I know has affected someone else, so if such a thread already exists could someone link me to it. Would posting here be appropriate?

We had a huge discussion on what to do about it, I remember someone suggesting 'Honey-Potting'.
But one of the admins pointed out it can be considered illegal.
I fail to grasp how honey potting can be considered illegal?
Ye, I'd pay money for all the many, many, many hours I spent playing this mod.
How about doing some crap like that Chris Roberts and give folks a custom user title or flashy gold forum name or something insignificant yet "special" if they send a few bucks to get a better hosting service? Or is that against the spirit of the server?

Thats exactly how that browser game I have mentioned is raising its funds. (However it's seldom enough. The Server Admin needs most time to pay for his hobby which is running this server and improving the game. And that revers to the greatest german server ...)
I consider it quite good to give those who donate something a little gimmick to say 'thank you'. Of cause nothing that improves stats.
That would be against balancing (because then you are on the commercial "free to play" games "with item mall". Those who are able and willing to pay will win over those who want not or can not everytime) and the real spirit of free software and free gaming.
However. I am part of this community for just a short time now. But I am willing to donate something as well.
To the stars!
Pavel prompted:We are the money making company! And Hartmann added later while discussing that with me:The DHC way to solve problems? - Throw mony at it, until it diiieees!

Yeah, a donation button is a must.
I hate to keep comparing Ace Of Spades to disco, but something that lead to it's downfall and penultimate takeover from Jagex was that the Dev didn't add a donation button when people suggested it.

Just to add my additional 2c: The reason why the staph doesn't give out bells & whistles for donations is because it IS against the spirit of the server.
Those that donate $$$ do it simply for the love of the game & desire to help keep it going financially when they can. While donations are always gratefully accepted, to elevate donators with forum shiny things above others simply because they shelled out money, it debases others who elevate the server and community with their own non-monetary contributions across the entire spectrum.
Money is good, but time & effort is worth more overall

It's also against the spirit of Microsoft's legal team, to the best of my knowledge.
To be fair, hoping for altruism in regards to an extremely outdated (but incredibly fun) game is a bit unlikely. We'd certainly hope people would consider donating to find another host though.

Mmkay, allow me to be blunt: How's your and my time and effort gonna get us a better hosting service, free of DDOS attacks?
Also envy is an ugly thing, if someone had a shiny gold name and I didn't, I wouldn't lose any sleep. I'd just be happy that the dude "shelled out" to make sure the server is online at all times for me and you to enjoy. I wouldn't take any more or less heed of what the golden dude was saying, just like post count and faction rank doesn't amount to anything at all in my book.
It can hardly be against any rules to give people something of absolutely zero value in return for a donation. It's like saying "thank you", but with gold letters - hardly a crime anywhere in the world.
