Remove Zoners, Replace Zoner Bases as Freelancer IFF

There's lolwutty caps all over the server, and I don't see anyone proposing to technerf LN/RM/etc ID to their own ships.

I'd rather nothing over gunship size be available to the public at large regardless of faction, I just don't bring it up much because no one wants to lose their toys. So I'm going into this a bit biased - against caps, not Zoners.

Well, I believe you are in the minority that holds that opinion, and that capital ships are the mod's biggest draw. If you only let a handful of people have the fun toys, there goes the mod's population. Which would you rather have, a server full of caps, or an empty server?

But where the hell are the Zoners getting the crew for a Nephilim or Aquilon?

And where is the maintenance being done? Where are the resources for supporting the crew coming from? Freeports don't produce enough food for that, not when there's dozens of the damned things running around.

Who's to say they don't have the resources? Also, remember, Nephs produce at least some of their own food.
Anyway, I'm not suggesting the Zoners take on the role of a Sirius-wide house military. I'm saying individual ships should be allowed to pick sides if they so choose, if we're going with this whole every-Zoner-can-do-their-own-thing model. Could they fight the GRN on their own? No, of course not, not without making the faction OP. But I think a guardship should be able to support the other houses in the conflict, knowing inRP that Gallia is a threat to Zoners everywhere. And in that role, they could make a meaningful difference.

An analogue for today's Zoners (at least, in the direction I want to see things go) is less Quarian Fleet, more Hutt Cartel.

Suspension of disbelief is not ironclad. It's elastic. It can be stretched, to a point, but it will eventually snap if it's pushed too far. And I've dealt with too many idiots in caps to want them open to anyone, frankly; they just make even less sense for Zoners.


I've had a Zoner since just after starting here, five years ago. Lloyd was one of my first few characters. Total asshole too. Dislikes most people to begin with, wants to murder a specific Gallic individual, and generally hates the Corsairs and anyone affiliated with them. He's not a space hippie, as you put it.

But that doesn't mean he needs a warship.

Yeah, well, as I've said before, if you want to be 'realistic' there are a lot of factions that aren't really logical. I could get up on a soapbox and start crabbing about how the SCRA doesn't make sense, what with them now having npc patrols in O50 and O49, their own shipline, etc, despite being surrounded by many enemies and being pretty much confined to a single system.

But I don't, because I don't feel the need to ruin other people's fun like some people on this forum seem to.

Freelancers are fortune seekers.
Zoners are idealists or just loners.
There's a distinct difference.

The only solution would be to remove those players themselves, as removing the zoner faction will just make them choose another faction to use as a scapegoat, meaning that it will do nothing but harm the zoners who actually want to play and RP.

Still, I doubt such a "solution" would be able to have itself implement

Delete Zoners and Corsairs won't have anything to stomp on whenever they don't get things their way.

On a more serious note,
Though Zoners go through some turbulent times, your proposition to delete the Zoners is totally fruitcake.
They play a prominent role in this game, they just need to get their stuff sorted out atm.

I agree with a major change to the Zoners. Perhaps scale them back to just TAZ. Factions like the Phoenix and SolaRs would become freelancer factions (no offense). They can rp as being spawned from Zoners if they want. Bases like Freeport 9, Corfu, and all the bases in Omicron 74 could go freelancer (except for Sparta and Corinth and all bases in Baffin). I also feel that the new Zoner ID sort of stifles the Zoners ability to do anything except keep totally to themselves. Correct me if I’m wrong but only being able to attack in self defense and being unable to ally with anyone sort of means you can’t even rp an attack on even a member of a hostile faction, since it wouldn’t be an attack only in self defense or defense of another Zoner ship/base. And what about bounties? The real solution to this problem? End the concept of total Zoner ‘neutrality’. Neutral doesn’t always mean peaceful to everyone unless provoked. It also can mean keeping the freedom to make and break alliances as they see fit. And be able to attack as rp reasoning develops and is deemed needed. A good example is that even though the Zoners are not at war with anyone, Gallia still considers them enemy, and would likely attack zoners just the same in the war zone areas or wherever. So would Zoners not be free to retaliate? Or on the individual level be able to choose to attack Gallic ships.

So in some way all of that would be able to happen if a lot of Zoner bases and ships went freelancer. Or if Zoners had the same autonomy and freedom that Freelancers have. That’s why some of these players with attitudes and egos that want to pvp inrp and etc ended up in the Zoners, for the freedom to choose their enemies and jobs. So no to removing the Zoners altogether, but make it so that what these players are doing is ok and give that freedom, or limit zoners to a group like TAZ, to give some control over anyone wanting to be a zoner, make sure they can play by the rules if they want in, or tell them go be a freelancer and troll all you like. Honestly most explorer/smuggler factions should be limited to being freelancer factions anyways. Either open the Zoners wide to as many factions as possible able to choose affiliations as they like, or close it to just one group of zoners, so that not every group who wants to be ‘wanderers’ all end up Zoners.

I'll put a close with this, and believe me I have tried to resist.
Zoners are zoners, Rogues are Rogues and TAZ is.. magicaly.. TAZ. Ain't no "quick get out of jail card" of "lets retconn all of it" simply because people have a bad taste for it, infact because of that reason - it will never happen, unless The "holy trinity" factions go anti-clockwise and super dumb to actually pull a stunt like that ( which not to be misunderstood, will make them weak and unworthy to lead a faction ). In other words, zoners shall remain zoners. OH BTW, just to be clear on something, zoners of the vanilla HAVE allies ; Rogues, IMG, Xenos ; Lane hackers ( I might be wrong with hackers )

The vanilla infocard says that Zoners have no allies nor enemies, can you explain to my why the hell Zoners would be allied with Rogues, IMG, and Xenos - factions that hate eachother and have nothing to trade with Zoners (Not including IMG)? As for the rest of your post, I have no idea what you were even trying to say, stop posting.

And on the topic of removing the Zoner ID, no, simply no - the fault is on Zoner players not the ID or NPC faction itself.

Um....what? Starting with Rogues, where ever did it say in Vanilla that Zoners were allies with Zoners?
