In all seriousness, though, we need a few places that are more profitable to be in as a trader, miner, smuggler, anything. Basically "guide" people through a certain corridor. That'll get pirates to camp the place, lawfuls to try and exterminate the pirates, and so forth.

I know, I would profit from it... or... would I?
Hubs put a lot of strain on the factions that are operating in there. Remember the old Dublin when BMM miners were shot so hard that Cannon deactivated mining in a "F you all!" move? Reason was that too many sanctions poured in. That's when the last remaining hub was shredded. A bad move in retrospect.

It might look like "Jack is trying to buff his own stuff", but in contrast you also increase the risk a lot. Working in a proper hub is much harder than working in the spread out ore regions like now.

So... I would definitely want the hubs back. And would also gladly expose my faction in it to unlawfuls. Just to make sure that this is not perceived as a totally selfish move. Big Grin

4.85 O7 Copper Ore rush was the thing. There was even smuggling involved as it was against Rheinland law to bring Copper ore to Liberty. Huge activity there.

My advise: Drop all ore prices to 80% except for 1 or 2. Those 1-2 mining spots will rise in activity. As well as the trade routes to sellpoints.

The hotspotts i want to start up again are:

Cambridge - un-screwup the jumphole connections leading to sig17's alien organism selling point
Dublin - Buff gold. Ridiculously.
Sig13 - gas mining and previous jumphole connections (except the NB one moved far from the lane)
T23 - Noobium.
NY - delete Pingasylvania and up contraband prices further.
O7 - All minerals.
Theta - let Outcasts and Corsairs meet there. Why not I ask?!

To summarize, derest devs, you seem to have underestimated Digi Anvil's wisdom in building the vanilla FL glaxy map. the potential and RP justification is all there to create player-populated hotspots in even and practical distances from one another and therefore capable of interacting in short order. I'm very glad trade options are so numerous and well-balanced, but it's only part of the global picture.

Revert as much as possible to vanilla's geography, keep the new commodity balance and buff mining profitability again. A smaller, much smaller galaxy will translate to a better one, since fewer bases and potential routes will be far easier to manage.

The problem with it is that interactions are pirate-trader or pirate-pirate. Lawfuls are nowhere to be seen, because it is not worth to have ship due to shortness of interactions and due to open-space cruising.

Look at Colorado and California. They are the go-through systems and there is plenty of actions and longer encounters than ones in Alberta.

Personally, I'm kind of bummed that selling Bretonian ore to Rheinland instead of Liberty is pretty much always the more profitable alternative now (unless I'm missing something). It removes a trader's choices in picking another route without losing out on profit, and I miss the ore filled transports flocking to New York en masse. Big Grin

Whether you like Liberty being an activity hotspot or not, it's been that one guarantee quite reliably for a long time, and it needs the traders to stay this way.

Activity hubs are one of the things that are needed. Other things that will increase fun and activity:

-less distance and useless boring systems devoid of new content and filled with copy-pasted bases with bar characters who think they are a vanilla character on another station in another system.

-more reasons and motivations to make money and trade/mine. I havent traded or mined in like 6 months. Dont need it. I make more money than I need protecting people from bluemessage-hunters. I dont fly caps a lot and even if I did everyone around me would be trying to make my game experience hell because they think they need to fight "capspam" this way. I got an idea how to fix that problem but I should probably explain that in another thread.

-more motivation to make make a new faction/group, to join a faction/group, to make up forum or ingame RP. By motivation I mean positive incentives, not negative ones. Not like "I need to do this so I dont get sanctioned or so I can get some gear that I really wanted", but more like "I do this because its fun and is what I really want to do, and no one is gonna stomp on me cause they dont like that someone else than them organizes in a group". I have RP stories in my head about stations that I could build, factions/Groups I could form. But when I think realistically, I think "nope, the faction leaders in power are never gonna tolerate that, simply because they wouldnt be running it themselves". Thats based on what I saw happen to other groups.

lets have a hub in kusari. <insert-choice-of-deity-here>knows that it's been dead since 83.

hubs are an excellent idea - perhaps they could be strategic ones? perhaps they could be blatant bribes for faction activity. if all the official factions from one house are getting warning signs, how about building a hub there to encourage their activity?

Bring back two week random ore price buff. That might do the thing.

Totally agree.

If done in a balanced fashion with enough variation, we get all the good times of chaotic hotspot, but without limiting them to certain factions as permanent hotspots would be.

I wholeheartedly agree with Karst.

An automated system of random buffs, drawing from a pre-determined set of commodities would eliminate any potential bias and human laziness.
