Another mining yield multiplier based on the amount of ships in group

I am actually suggesting that after an X amount of people are in a group and inside the field, the field drain not only stops, but the drop is increased. In other words, solo mining becomes completely unprofitable and causes people to set up mining operations. Such operations would be spurting out so much more, that other traders can go in and buy the ore for cheap, thus promoting non-miner ore trading.

And place that inside Kusari. Because.

That sounds really awesome. Devs would make our disco Christmas if that is implemented.

Nah, he does deserve to earn money and it's cool if he mines alone, he just won't get the speed perks of having other people assisting in the mining operation. Ergo, he makes more profit per second than a solo mining operation.

I don't like it. When it's morning there are very few people online in the server, something like 20-30 people online. No pirates, few traders, no miners. What if I want to do some mining alone and I can't because there is a so useless implementation? Or anyway, what if I have to stay there more time than now to get some ores. Also as I think many people some times I want to be alone and make some money on my own. This doesn't mean that I isolate myself and I do not RP, I can always meet someone who want to pirate me.
To tell the truth there are already some large groups that mine and sell a lot and it's very easy to make one, I'm already a member of one of those groups, so I think if you want to make one to mining, just ask to some people, you don't need something more.

Yeah, that's a fair point. Solo mining shouldn't be made unprofitable, I think Spazzy just worded wrongly, it should just not be on par as group mining.

You can always mining some ores on your own and then sell them to someone...

Yeah, come gather in large groups, so that pirates notice you easier and provide much more danger in exchange for large potential profit.

That would be nice, since pirates are 'endangered species' now a days.

Come to Alberta with a mining ship and you'll see that isn't the case. Platinum has had to stop many of our mining ops lately as it was unprofitable as within 5-10 minutes of logging we'd of already been hit by at least 2 groups of pirates, independent of each other, with more on the way. Paying for escorts and using our own security forces did little to help the matter, on the occasions when we did have enough sec pilots to fight em off, we'd still be racking up a massive bill.

I don't think anyone needs to worry about pirate activity around mining fields, it's elsewhere, hitting the lanes that pirates are rarely spotted these days.

Not that I'm saying this is a bad idea, on the contrary it has me intrigued, I just don't think that saying it'll encourage more piracy is a valid justification.

Teamwork is already encouraged. Mining groups need a decent balance of miners and traders for optimal profit / unit of time.

Why (over)complicate the system?

Surely to keep this idea balanced in game terms, the additional drop rate would require a price drop at the other end. The current system is fine. The more people mining per transport the quicker the fill.

There is nothing wrong with solo miners, they're mostly still learning things newbies who after some time will come to conclusion they want to mine with full efficiency - in group. Hegemon was reverted to old bigger cargo hold to encourage people to mine, also on their own.

Doesn't take away from the fact that group mining operations with the current system are still more efficient than solo mining. Solo mining, like any mining, breeds activity. Not as much as a large group, perhaps, but taking it away won't suddenly get all those lone players to form groups. I'd say it's more likely they just start solo trading instead.
