The buy point in FP 11 is the nuisance here. No one would bother to mine Iridium, when they can get it at 500 credits nearby which will prove profitable in the long run.
Also as lyth suggested, there can be sell points inside Omicron to promote trader activity in there.

Make it a proper mining commodity. Drops are bad (around 3 per shot in contrast to 12-15 on normal mining commodities with optimised mining loadout and multipliers.)
Kill the cheap selling point. No one mines anything that has a npc selling spot. Ore does not sell on npc bases.

Mining factions to mine it: In the current system at the spot no one can mine it. It is suicidal. Possibilities would be:
give Omicron factions a 2,5 multiplier (like Mollys who can mine but also have other stuff to do and are not as good at mining as mining factions). Order. Bhg core. Ai. Zoners.
Give Mining ID a x3 (or delete the stupid id fully)
Give all other mining factions a x3 to allow for some entrepreneur deep space high risk Omicron expeditions. These were great fun and triggered a lot of rp. A change of air is good especially for factions that are always in the same systems.
Miner ID doesn't have a 3.0x bonus already? According to the configuration file, Miner ID is the only ID with Iridium bonus. The server configuration may be different, though.

Omicron factions should have priority for a commidity that is native in their enviroment. We should be looking at buffing the activity of the Omicron's own factions. I'd suggest a high bonus for the Zoners and AI, with Order and Core having a lower bonus.

The mining ID should not be on par, or better, with native factions. It should be lower and lose it's docking rights to the other factions bases.

No. IMG etc. does not need to mine Iridium when the other Omicron factions should be the ones having the bonus, promoting native Omicron faction activity. Any bonus at all at the very least should be for Omicron factions and only Omicron factions.

The AI Consensus already requested a mining bonus. We'd like Iridium to be an ore-like commodity which can be traded for good profits somewhere far away in Sirius. For that, of course, the sellpoint on FP11 should be removed.

They have their own mining bonuses already, giving them another will just make them OP. They only want to "explore" a new commodity. Why just not let native factions mine it regularly at a high bonus, than a faction coming and mining it once in a while?
Oh, what am I saying. We'll just end up having nothing but IMG ID'd miners mining Iridium all the time because they have a higher bonus than the native factions )))
And how will they stay in their corner? They need to export it somehow, and that is through flying to a sellpoint. Why do people think they'd be grounded in the Omicrons and unable to export it? It's not like The Order and The Core are going to be mining it with capital ships.
In my opinion, only Indy miner should have a bonus for it. Omnicron factions like outcasts and sairs can pirate and BHG to act as escorts.
We should buff the price of iridium on the freeport in delta(if it cannot be removed) and increase the selling points across the board on all selling points.
