It was entertaining. Very much reminded me of the original Star Wars film, perhaps too much. I'm hoping this is Abrams way of giving a nod to the originals and the next two depart from the copycat plot points this film employed.

Haven't watched it yet, but friends have told me it follows the recent movie tradition of mostly teasing at whatever the rest of the trilogy or whatever is going to bring. Which is annoying. Overarching storylines in movies with expected sequels are fine, but I'm not a big fan of a movie not properly wrapping up its own individual storyline. Dunno if that's the case here, though.

The movie actually pretty well created its own story line by following the developments in the originals series and partially "that" story - most heated fans knew about "some specific" known to them characters and unknown to all not-fan-community. The movie clearly set the first stages of many things to be answered and further developed in 8 and 9 series.
What you are about to see can be described easily with the words of Mark Hamill at an interview about the "behind scenes". Its not a spoiler:
Quote:"You've been here, but you don't know this story. Nothing's changed really, I mean everything's changed but nothing's changed. That's the way you want it to be really".
This movie was "star wars" enough to make the fans satisfied especially after you witness the plot origin - which "heated" fans like me foreseen year ago. If you are star wars fan - you gonna enjoy it. If you like star wars just cuz its nice movie - you might not like it enough to call it epic due to some necessary similarities which you won't understand why they exist.
Well it was alright I guess. It's like they were afraid of trying something new so all you get is a nice ride in the nostalgia rollercoaster while you watch Episode IV with some new characters and factions. I would have enjoyed it if they kept the references a bit more subtle but oh well. The cast was okay, but none of the characters except for the girl were really noticeable.
All in all I think the rating this movie deserves would be: 'decent'
