The problem with the cockpit not centered is that it looks really weird because I SEE where the center is. And with ships were you can see the engines it looks so very odd. Is there a way for me to center them? I like them but them being off center is very weird. Especially on my Renzu where there are no pilots it is odd to have it not centered.
@Skorak Either you can't explain it properly or I don't understand you...so I made an image to show you. Check this out. Yellow point is where "you"/camera is located. Green point is where "centered" camera is usually being used to all other military cockpits. Red point is where possibly is the next pilot. I assure you that I did my best to properly center the whole bridge to the visible ship parts on top of manually fixing the tons of textures per 1 cockpit until it reaches perfect eye candy.
The "Military" bridges are using centered camera, while "Trading" ones - a slightly moved on the left camera to give a realistic view, considering the double pilot plot of mine and that the main pilot is on left.
As for the visible engines - they are not an issue of the bridges because these ships (I think Train line) always had this visual glitch, no matter with or without cockpit (turned off).
I know that the train thing has always been there. I always ignored it since I put it aside as: You can't see the ship in cockpit view.
This new cockpit makes it more apparent that it is not centered now.
It also makes it hard to guess perspectives. Since It looks like I am centered in normal view but on cockpit it looks like I am flying past it.
On my Renzu it makes even less sense. Oh well I guess I will just remove them again for transports or whatever. Or don't use cockpit at all again.
I really love the capital bridges though. Very good work.
You could always centre the camera and have a centre window. On the bridge there'd certainly be a Captain, and typically the Captains chair is in the centre of the bridge.
The problem is... that before or on the other ships, this slightly increased immersion. But with these moved cockpits it actually makes it feel worse for me. But maybe that is just me. Then I would just like to find out how to fix it for me.
I see your point. But the "cockpit camera" have nothing to do with "bridge pilot camera". If that is what you are talking about - then that is NOT under my hands to solve because it requires all .cmp Ship files to have their "cockpit camera" properly changed.
For example - most capital ships have it "centered". Imagine Kusari Battleship - directly in its center in the middle part is the cockpit. Is that making any sense? No, but that is how it was done. Possibly they might fix that in future but I doubt its of such an issue overall.
The way it looks from your image is fine and I really don't see why the frustration. Look the image below, perspective is same from driver point of view.
Just because custom-ships like all caps and some traders are having their cockpit placed...with sarcasm "inside the engine" - does not mean it was an issue with my project which reveals what is inside a ship. These are two different things.
I even openend fire to make it more apparent. You are sitting in the center of the ship with the cockpit is showing you sit left from the center. Not like in your screen where both is to the left of the center.
Yes, I already understood you refer towards the "cockpit camera location" on the ship models. Its normal for that to be properly centered, while my version of the trading bridges simply is trying to represent interior from different point of view for diversity sake. Yuri back then encouraged me to do something new that is not "centered" like the Military bridges because otherwise would be too "dull" for all to be similar.
I know how that might be fixed, by changing the cockpit camera to be exactly where the bridge pilot is located (slightly on the left) but that will lead to tons of issues, which nobody would want to handle. For example if players are not using this "bridge" - their camera would be on the left instead centered and might feel even odd-er. Consider this as cosmetic tweak, nothing more. But if more players are having problem with it - the "Trading Version 2" cockpits will be all centered.
My vision is that Trading ships simply are too small and the "bridge" is close to a cockpit but slightly bigger than the fighter. That is why I wanted the players to feel they are not alone sitting there but there is also someone else on right side but you cant see it due to your field of view (Placing an arm would look odd).
I know everyone have different "visions" of how interior should look like - but for example I am not fan to "captain chairs" from star trek nor "star wars bridges" even though I am fan to both of these sci-fi universes.
What I did was primary focused on Freelancer - with best of my knowledge about the game, how it would look inside. Observing carefully Bar/Shop/Dealers.cmp and etc gave me understanding what could possible be there. But also - observing windows and exact positions of "original" outter bridges and ornaments. So, point was to give maximum feeling of an interior of a Freelancer ship. If you are using such a ship with obvious double pilot cockpit and you don't feel well being sitting on the left...I respect it, but this is part of Freelancer I imagine considering all listed above.
If you want to change it so badly...get the generic capital bridge cockpit.cmp from Cockpit\Misc folder. But most ini files are linked to a specific cockpit.cmp so if you do that change some other ships will also have it. Just dont touch ini files.
You can do whatever you like and I do not consider your opinion as "whining". Instead that is kind of feedback i wanted to hear (not stating I am happy people dislike it the way it is) but its good to know what to improve on next version.
