this place.. does not lend much but to free form styles of pretend. Your skill level will remain the same and this cramps the other side of the game aspect.
If there was a rules system that benefitting a character at play here.. its going to be shadow masquerade 100% of the time until someone recognises whether or not you suck in a dogfight. and frankly for some that's all they care about here.
then theres the other side of this dark coin. the popularity contests both real and imagined.
So ill have to stand by it.. saying no one does and everyone does just not the way you put it.

Yeah, no. People like to present Disco this way, but if it ever was hardcore RP server, it´s long gone. There is so much things which does not make sense inRP at all, stemming from rules, game mechanics, PvP and general balance or simply attitude of significant part of the community, that the list would be longer than toilet paper roll. Currently, Disco is relaxed RP server at best where RP is often put on side track because of ooRP reasons, let´s not lie to ourselves and claim otherwise. Hardcore roleplayers often gets frustrated over time when trying to play here.
Regarding OP - if people mix your nature and attitude as player with your character´s nature and attitude, it is kind of sign you roleplay pretty well. Like with actors, when some people judge their personality upon personality of their movie character, because they look so naturally while acting. I would say it still is kind of better to be considered mean guy/girl by people who don´t know you personally because you roleplay mean guy/girl, than people smilling at your mean guy/girl roleplay.
Though this issue is also related to fact that ooRP motives are quite common on Disco, thus it is no surprise that people think there must be some behind your actions.

I'm pretty happy with the Roleplayers I encountered so far. We have a nice group of peeps that does incredibly good roleplay, and having some of them in my 'crew' supplies me with a daily potion of RP, be it ingame, in the forum or in Skype. For multiple months now. <3
Oh we all know they supply you with more then just RP sombra Jk
Right, so ontopic, yes, I try to RP every character as it would react to a certain situation, as opposed to how I would react.
However, most of my chars have the same type of personality, because I'm more comfortable RPing that. That, and its easier to keep track of how certain chars RP. There's only minor variations for each I have (And it ain't much).
But If someone were to RP him/herself, I probably wouldnt be able to tell unless they do. I met one such person on a different game RP server, and it still was great fun.
It doesnt really matter how or what you RP, as long as you RP and it is enjoyable for both sides IMO. There isnt a real standard as to what is considered good RP, because everyone has a different standard.
This Galaxy is vast; its wonders and beauty are almost unfathomable. But the galaxy also hides dark secrets, some of which have lain dormant since the beginning of time itself. There is a danger in secrets, both in seeking and in knowing. Some things are meant to be hidden from view. Some mysteries defy understanding, and sometimes even the things we think we know are untrue. Some secrets should remain untouched.
I love to RP my characters away from my personality because i can live my personality already everyday lol
I created a gangster freelancer before "Malakai Yakuza" owner of Nebula Complex base and member in the Yakuza gang .. and i created "Mark Hamann" a businessman from rheinland with a military background, rich and kinda dealing with everyone from above and under the table. I also created "Captain Lloyd" a bretonian captain of HMS-Marlborough ...
I created also "Steve Malmsteen" a lawyer or attorney for a major mining and fabrication corporation.
I never mixed RL with RP because it makes no sense, Unless you want to RP your current personality in RL which i prefer not to do it.
I know people who mix RP with RL and it result in big mess ... i don't recommend it at all, and anyway, eventually, those players who do/did so, are without feeling digging a hole for themselves.
Nice Thread @Wesker , My friend
That's the main goal for me when playing any game - especially in Multiplayer.
Winning can be fun, but even when knowing you or your team will lose, you can have fun by making it a nice game.
I was on an Airsoft-LARP-Event in the STALKER-Universe and it was awesome.
Even RPing a Snork (Mob), grunting at the Players and then running from my cover straight at them and collapsing 2m in from them in the hail of BBs, completely exhausted was fun. There was nothing to win for me, but a lot of fun for everyone.

Can we please drop the attitude that everyone who enjoys FL's combat must be in it to stroke their egos instead of just, y'know, enjoying playing the game like a normal god damn human being?
All I ever see from the people who complain about getting shot on this server is "THEY JUST WANT TO STROKE THEIR PVP DONGERS!!" or "THEY'RE OUT TO GET ME!!"
It's like people are hardwired to think everything is negative when most of the people being bitched at about it just enjoy shooting, and it isn't their fault it ruins things for other people. Being told to go to conn and that they're worthless to the server ruins it just as much for them, but that doesn't matter because.. you hold some imaginary moral high ground which is based on, what, exactly?
It's really funny how many times this argument comes up regarding PvP. It's like clockwork.
Those who think that PvP should be restricted to Conn or only for events (these people also like to think of themselves as these high and mighty RPers without equal) are in fact the absolutely worst roleplayers on this server. Bar none, the worst. Dang. -KB
I can already sense the indignation so allow me to expand. Every faction in this server has enemies of varying degrees, from open war to clandestine hostilities. What does this mean? The Discovery lore is driven entirely by conflict. In every conflict, there is a winner and a loser, unless of course it was such an even battle that it's a stalemate. But battles have winners and losers. War have winners and losers. You will undoubtedly get blown up if you fly a ship that has enemies. Pirates steal, they will pirate you. Lawfuls will intercept and attack criminals. This is how it should be.
But guess what, you getting blown up by your enemies was not bad roleplay. To the contrary, you both acted out your roles, there just happened to be someone whose character lost. By telling people who want to PvP to go to Conn or only do PvP events you are literally taking an essential facet of Disco RP and shoving it aside. That makes you the worst roleplayer on the server.
