I believe that Drones shouldn't take up quite as much cargo space given that they are forced onto the carriers without an option like with heavy turrets to manage your loadout and cargo spacing requirements.

It has just been released; the patch I meant. Get used to spot drones when you see carriers on the grid. You guys are wilding out and not giving this new carrier feature room to breathe.
Carrier drones sucks at the moment pretty much. They are REALLY easy to drstroy to the point you can destroy them before they can even strike you if you use your secondaries or prims of any kind. They do very little damage for their whole launch time + travel time to target and then the targat can either use flaks, use CDs or simply CM torps fired from the drone.
Lets do some basic math.
Lets take the light torpedo drone. It does 450k damage every 15 seconds. Takes 60 seconds to launch in first place and has at least 10 seconds travel time in a fight.
Considering in an average fight they only strike 2 or max 3 times before destruction,
You get following thing:
Your drone doesnt do any damage for 60 seconds as it launches first. Then does 450k / 15 dps for 45 seconds and then it gets destroyed. Which equates to merely 928 dps in a timespan of 105 seconds. Even if we dont put the launch time into equation, a drone merely does 30k dps, assuming EVERY shot hits and drone operates perfectly. For heavy drone that value merely raises to 1031 dps in 105 seconds and 33k dps if we do not take drone launch time. Which means, carriers, combined with their lowered hull, lowered powercore, huge launch time of drones and drones being super easy to destroy, actually driven into uselessness.
