Holy hell, there's a name I didn't expect to see. It's almost like we're getting the band back together. At this rate, I'll be tempted to try another Buccaneer revival.
As to the end of the war, I'm looking forward to it. I'm particularly interested in the RP of a post-war Bretonia. Even without a big enemy like Kusari or Gallia, there will be plenty of activity to be had. The movement against the Zoners in O49 has the potential for future conflict. Against the Zoners, if they choose to get militant and fight back. The Corsairs won't be happy about it, nor will the Coalition (unless the current attempt at diplomacy works out and they choose not to fight over GC). Conflicts against the Mollys and Gaians will likely flare up again, too, once the outside enemy is gone.
Even more interesting to me is what happens with post-war Gallia. Whether the Council wins and ends the war, or the Royalists end the war themselves to focus on keeping the Council at bay, their relationship with the houses of Sirius could be interesting. With EFL starting to export their gate/lane tech, Ageira's monopoly in that area is effectively over. Also, how much of their gains in the Taus will they be allowed to keep, and how will the factions in that area (CR, NO, IMG, Malta, etc) settle their own conflicts with Gallia?
Really, once Gallia hit Leeds, things should have started to bounce back. Back when battleship Oublie was taken out, it seemed like a big allied offensive was next to invade and liberate Leeds. If you think about it, if all of Gallia's enemies had done just that then, the war could have finally begun to move the other direction. That would have been fun, recapturing what was lost over the course of a few updates. Maybe even the allies would be sieging New Paris right now. To me that was the version that made the most sense, Gallia was in over its head for a while now. I hate to say it but if the war ends with Gallia just fizzing out and going home to save Bretonia, I'd be like 'what?'. A last minute saving of Bretonia, although I wouldnt turn it down, seems like a cheap way of correcting years of ramming through bad decisions. This war should have shifted the other way and been resolved long ago. I had always wanted to see Gallia collapse and break up like post USSR, and let Sirius colonize it. It wound up the other way around, and couldnt get how dispite so many enemies, they just keep going. Nothing about it seemed to reflect the determination of the players.
So we get a surrendered Bretonia, or a shrunk bretonia with gallic occupied systems, or gallia succumbs at the last minute to a super weapon or act of Nomads?
For the record, I never even wanted to see gallia destroyed, it just would have made sense that they made some quick gains for a few years (like germany ww2), and would have been pushed back once they got so far (same thing again). If a gallic playerbase had been required to place all these staions, capture gates and trade lanes, etc...they would never have made it out of Orkney. The most reasonable outcome would have been if Bretonia had retaken up to Tau31, and reached a deal. That could have left a good cold war.
I do look forward to seeing the reolution either way, so we can all finally move on with however it works out. But the only miraculous turn around I'll buy is if God himself shows up in an invincible ship to smite the Gauls back in one fell swoop.
