Server police might not be a bad idea, but they'd have to be very trustworthy sorts, and kept on a tight leash. This sort of thing can get out of hand if we're not careful.
I am in favor of more admins, though. The ones we've got are definately overworked.
Angels Suggestion: We have had Flak for doing just advice.
And we've been attacked often Like you wouldn't believe in game lately - despite
having a neutral ID and being helpful and all. .
You'd have to talk to Caylith because the Angels are currently her baby.
We're tired as well. Everything we do is criticized. You make one suggestion in the Angel
Char and people jump down your throat about being Server Police, or Heavy handed.
Then we have to face the complaints on the Forums because of that one suggestion.
And we get people not reading the ID's, and attacking us ingame "just because."
Whoever is Admin/server police/Angel Char needs to have thick skins and patience galore.
At the moment we are not much more than "reliable transfer banks".

' Wrote:not exactly true, because you dont have to be always on the admin character. you can be an admin on another char, and if you happen to witness an OORP thing, or summit, you can always log on your admin char, and sort things out. admin character or not, you can still do your admin duties methinks? yeah, have fun playing, but dont let the oorpers ruin the fun totally eh?
EDIT: heres a suggestion. the Angels have characters that are there to help and guide new players. maybe upgrade their ability to 'hurt the bad guys as well'? or *laughs* give the Angels a special death squad:laugh:
I'm afraid Tenacity has the jist of it. After, eh, 3 and half years DMing(Admining) on NWN and almost a year on a BF2142 server, I've come to understand that admin isn't a fun job unless you make it that way. Which would be incredibly hard on a Freelancer server.
You have to keep a bunch of things in mind as an admin. For instance, say a noob logs into the server, undocks, takes a potshot or two at a pass Lib BS patrol and gets torn to bits. Now he starts cussing his head off, and you have to kick/ban him. Problem with this is, do it outright, and in the long run, any of the other newbloods sitting around will mark you as a power abuser/jackarse/etc.
Admin is a balancing act and frankly, not too many have the ability to do it. Plus, consider this. You have to give up playing Freelancer for portions of time a day.
thats the reason why we dont need 1 or two more admins. we need a dedicated team of at least 3-5 more admins, who know and are WILLING to give up a bit of their time to do the admin's job.

if you have been an admin, id like to ask you this. do you just straight away ban a player for abusing? no warning, or nothing at all? if so, THAT is pretty much power abusing, or, way toooooooo rigid admining, because you havent listened to the 'victim's side of the story, just kicked/banned, cuz he abused...
Good idea, yes. Just not me. I got enough stuff going on...
Yeah sorry. It was a metaphor for what the LPI do or what was suggested awhileback.
I'll clarify. I meant the "Server Police" could politely and friendily crack down on OORP and OOC.
Especially in the "noob hotspots", Near Malta and in NY.
All it takes is a gentle PM ingame "Please take that Out of role play chat to the private messages. Thank you!"

What about server police that are specifically in charge of things like Faction Proposals, Moving stuck people, listening to complaints, all the non-sanction and non-server-maintenance things? That way, the admins are focusing on being administrators instead of babysitters for the entire server.
This has probably been suggested before, but just throwing it out there...
[8:32:45 PM] Dusty Lens: Oh no, let me get that. Hello? Oh it's my grandma. She says to be roleplay.
[12:49:19 AM] Elgatodiablo: You know its nice that you have all that proof and all, Bacon... but I just don't believe you.

That's what I'm saying. Let me see if I can explain, I jumble things.
Say he starts violating rules left and right - cussing/hacking/whatever. You can either let him do this, and affect other peoples RP/game play.
But then you still need to listen to his story, but if he won't calm then you have a problem. Mute/kick, you need to do something like that, but without making it 'abuse'.
