' Wrote:There's no reason that a Guard system can't be part of the RP. Most factions just see theirs as a place to resupply, and nothing else. The XA has tried to put a bit of story with our Guard system.
The idea that other factions can possibly purchase the empty systems does have intriguing possibilities, though.
true, but some don't really make any sense. i'll use the Liberty Navy as an arbitrary example... they are the chief military of Liberty a.k.a. the protector, who's Capital is New York. for defense purposes i would think they would want a guard base in their Capital, not two solar systems away.
that's why i like the idea of a guard area, using the above example, with a large guard base in New York. somewhere off the beaten path, with guard NPC battleship spawns. something similar to Corsica for the outcast......that's another example....why have the Outcast guards in a different system so far away from Malta?
logistically it'd be a total mess.
bah! whom am i to speak of such things? alas, my opinion counts for naught
Why does the US military test new stuff in the middle of the desert (Area 51) instead of in Washington DC?
Guard bases might be a private place away from prying eyes, but not necessarily the headquarters. Virginia might have been the navy's answer to nomads, order, and bounty hunters in Alaska.
hm... probably because:
a) Most players are hostile to most guard reps other than their own.
b) Guard system bases carry no commodities, most dont carry any weapons or ships either.
c) Guard system bases dont buy any commodities for decent prices.
d) there's no missions in guard systems, and most dont have anything interesting there.
The exception to D is omicron 85, with that whole black hole and corsica thing, it looks cool if you can find it... but a lot of guard systems are really just a blank area with a base and a jump hole or two. Not much work was put into making the system 'look' cool.
Kinda makes me happy that both of my main faction guard systems had so much stuff put into them. Omicron 100 has four bases and two jump holes along with all the little tunnels going through the asteroid fields, and it has some background to it concerning one of the planets and bases.
Puerto Rico has four bases - one of them a shipyard, two asteroid fields, two jump holes, and the rift... which is almost as cool as a black hole =P
' Wrote:i'm not a fan of guard systems. in my opinion they add nothing to the game as a whole. i would prefer them to have a guard base in the system, or a guard "Area" in a system but i don't like a the idea of a whole solar system being shut off from all but a very few.
now i'm not against PC's closing a system because that's RP, and if it's good RP then i'd even encourage it. what i don't like is a basically empty system, because 95% of the time they are empty while the other 5% there may be 1 or 2 people in it, being closed to RP.
i say make a guard "Area" in a system with guard patrols around a guard base, but not throughout the whole system, and populate the rest of the system with normal NPC's, trade routes, and mineable fields.
as for empty systems, i feel they need to be populated as well. atleast with named planets and NPC's either trading or pirating or something....they need some life brought to them
gimme something to Discover, instead of closing more of the game off to me of filling it with empty space.
just my opinion.....sorry for it turning into a rant
I agree with Dreygon here. If we get our way. Our system will have vanilla style NPCs and all the rest of it cause we want to be attacked there. We want people to visit. What the hell is the point in having a system that no one will go to. Not even your enemys.
Yes, blank systems are placeholders. Not only for systems meant to be populated, but also for sale and just random modding. For example, I'm modding Okinawa (currently under a different name, connected to Nagano) and Nagano. Okinawa I'm modding for someone else, and adding a small bit of my own stuff to, and Nagano was an idea the two of us came up with when discussing Okinawa. As far as I know, neither of these systems has been purchased by a faction, they are just vanilla-like systems that people wanted made. Munich and Newcastle are examples of already-made ones.
Also, I agree to an extent on the guard systems.. The need guard area, not the entire system. Also, they shouldn't be out in the middle of nowhere. Omicron-74 is an example, its connected to Theta, but goes nowhere else. It also sells no commodities, has no trade routes. To get around this I did try to add some RP elements to it when I made it. Originally Freeport XV was to be a major food supplier to the Omicrons. Some of you may remember the version of it when it still had 16 Biodomes. Other things was Livadia Shipyards, the Zoner's only shipyard, which sold the Juggernaut. Corinth and Sparta was the last.
I've had quite a few complaints about the Corinth Minefield, which makes me glad, as its SUPPOSED to be difficult. Some people forget the purpose of mine fields with very small, maze-like entrances. Inside that is Corinth Research Station and Sparta (the station guarding Corinth). I believe my infocard for Corinth still says that it was where the Fury 5 was developed and where you can buy them. The idea was for Corinth to be the main station for any stories involving Zoners and research/technology. I've even seen a few people use it in stories (granted, not in big ways, but it makes an appearance, which is all I can ask for).
However, since the system can't have trade routes I decided on making Omicron-64 (might be in 4.85), which is like Gran Canaria's opposite. Instead of a Zoner system with Corsair influence, its nearly a jointly-colonized system of Outcasts and Zoners. Both have a good number of bases there, and I plan on an Outcast-colonized planet, if Igiss allows it. As well as an Outcast-Zoner shipyard. One side OC, one side Zoner, connected in the middle. Basically two different bases connected by a few pipes. The Outcasts keep most others out of the system, however the Zoners will control the Jump Holes to Sigma-59 (I think thats the system), which is the GMG Guard. As a result, almost all the supplies will be provided by the Zoners, who will make a rather nice profit off the Outcasts because of all the trade. I could go on about this for awhile, so I'll end there..
Anyway, the point is this; Guard systems have their purpose. A place to retreat to, and to gather equipment. But normal systems also need to be made, to balance it out, and those systems need trade routes and lots of RP potential. By the way, if any of you guys have ideas for vanilla-type systems, not guard systems, throw me a PM about it. I usually don't charge credits for making vanilla systems unless a faction plans on purchasing it as soon as its put in the mod.
NY is a saturated system, You cannot add more bases in it or it may cause some errors. Where did I read that, I think it was in one of the toturials for system modding.
Yes, Some systems need to be populated.
-Taus will be more populated in the next version
-Omegas already have a lot of diversity, but no problems with having more (edditing the system between the SCRA guard and O-49)
-The Canadian systems need to be populated (minesotta and New Hamp included)
-Rheinland already seems full I think.
-Kusari needs a little boost, Glad to see that Dab is already working on it.
-Chester could become Mollies property indeed
-Dundee...Errr Gaians?
-The sigmas,,, I think something could be added there, Dunno what actually.

Well, Omicron 94 is getting a lick 'O paint and some new shelves, courtesy of the Benitez. Even us members haven't seen it in game yet, but the snaps we have been shown look excellent! Currently awaiting it being posted in the system submission area. *Pokes Carlos* Hurry up mi Don!
From what i understand all the currently blank systems are either being used for guard purposes or for future development. I think the Canadian systems are being revamped next mod version for example.
Alot of these systems are just there... but i guess they could be there waiting to be filled by 4.85... but some are saying we are already playing 4.85 for they have knoticed many changes in NPC fighting, NPC power, and the recent appearence of scorpion gunboats in sig-13 ( they are almost impossible to kill)
As for buying system i think it would be nice if clans could put in a request for a system, as for paying, whats the point? Admins can just /setCash to get money, i think what they need is a trial for the systems.
And if anyone wants to look into it, there are WAY too many cops in liberty someone needs to sneak a few extra JHs into NY to whip them cops into shape i meen seriously!! have you seen them? they sent 2 cruisers, 5 gunboats and 8 fighters after 3 nomad trial chars (in light fighers)!!!
