L.O.S.T took the seat that Nicole invited her to take. Someone told me a similar thing... I wanted to know if it was true. She calmed down a bit. To answer you, if I already did some kind of maintenance, I never did one because...She hesitated a moment before to continue. I don't know how to do one...
She was a bit embarrassed by that truth even if it was not a real feeling, but she knew that woman in front of her will show how to proceed. It was a sertitude. L.O.S.T did not know who was that person in front of her. Well only her name. She remembered a sentence she said earlier: ''It might be possible, I'm not entirely sure yet, I haven't been in to work yet so I don't know how much I can dig up'' What did she mean? Did she hide something? That was the questions she was asking to herself.
Nicole listened to her, thinking a bit. She's done some kind of maintenance but also doesn't know how to perform it? Perhaps she doesn't know even her most basic things that well. Still, the girl should atleast get to know how to take care of herself, even if she is a bit childlike in her maturity levels. "That'll be something we'll have to look at today or some other time in the near future. Even if not performing it yourself, it's always good to know you have someone who's capable of taking good care of you. I've been stuck on your origins though.. You see, I work for the Navy, quite high up actually, I'm the Director of Naval Intelligence and Research and Development for the 5th Fleet. I don't recall ever hearing about any project that you would be a result of, which makes me think either it was before my time, or it's something that wasn't mean to be happening, but happened anyway. I know some people who've been around forever that I can ask around about. For now my biggest concern is your own safety. Nobody's ever been coming after you or trying to talk you into doing anything?"
Being an old, scrubbed Navy project, she'd imagine some operatives or scientists involved with the old project would've kept an eye on her instead of L.O.S.T simply being out in the open, unsupervised. "If I may ask aswell. The most ways I see your name spelled is as if it stands for something. Do you happen to know what that is?"
When Nicole said to L.O.S.T that she was in the navy 5th fleet in the Intelligence and Research and Development, it was like if a big slap hit her face and she remembered a sentence that someone told her when she was in Omicron Lost: ''Be on your guards because some will try to be kind with you, but at the end, they want to weaponize you like all the military houses, Order and or the Core.'' After some moment of silence, looking into the void the girl began to talk. I don't know what means my codename... She waited a moment before to continue. Will you hurt me?
Her voice was not like before. There was like sadness or some confusion in it. Many words were spinning in her microprocessor trying to find out what could means L.O.S.T. Some second passed and her system received a violent blow. It was like if her microprocessor couldn't handle many things in the same time like: Thinking, Control the body and talk, but when the microprocessor focused to much between the incential stuffs and trying to find out what could mean L.O.S.T, this one disrupted all the activity of the body. Suddenly, L.O.S.T's eyes seemed empty and fall on the floor.
However, she was alive, but she wasn't conscious at all. What to do now she was in that position? How Nicole could handle this situation? One thing was sure, L.O.S.T was vulnerable and if the plans of Nicole were to convert L.O.S.T to something else than how she was, the director of Intelligence and Research and Development had the chance to act and do everything she wanted about that girl on the floor.
Nicole seemed suddenly shocked at L.O.S.T collapsing suddenly. She called her name a couple times before calling for her friend, Jade, to come up and help her carrying the collapsed girl to the medical deck. After arriving there, Jade and Nicole began looking inside L.O.S.T's body, checking to see the issues. It seemed she wasn't necessarily running sturdy or state of the art components, hence her microprocessor getting overwhelmed with too many things at once. The two got to work making ever careful replacements, replacing the old microprocessor with a new quantum processor, the very same Jade uses to handle her intensive work. The processing would take a few hours, but they went through, making careful upgrades to L.O.S.T while being sure to not risk her behavior or thought processing, although she was now equipped with more of the latest technology than before. Nicole hoped that this would keep her from having such issues again.
It was simply a matter of waiting now, they'd tested her new upgrades and external diagnostics showed nothing wrong, but that didn't mean they were in the clear yet. L.O.S.T still had to make sure she was working properly on the inside for Nicoles worries to be put to rest. They'd switched her back on but were just waiting for her to wake up and hoped no lasting damage had been done by it.
"I'm worried about her.. we were just talking and she collapsed.. maybe her hardware was just too old?""She'll be fine, you'll see.."
While Jade and Nicole were occupied with some work on L.O.S.T, in her subconscious, she had had a brief memory, but this one came from the brain. In it, she was like in a some kind of aquarium, but over sized it for a human body. In that time, she was young and her reflex was to put a hand on the glass. Outside of the aquarium, there were scientists who were observing the project.
The memory stopped as fast as it came when L.O.S.T's systems were starting to be activated. Eyes closed, the fingers started to move one at one to make a fist from the both hands and after some moments of this sequence, she opened her eyes. The first thing she saw was the light on top of her. Already, she saw a difference with her vision. The interface was different. The young girl sat and looked down straight at the floor. She remembered nothing, but only that she was talking to Nicole about something and here again, it was dark.
L.O.S.T looked at her left to her right and saw two women. One was Nicole and the other one was unknown to her. Usually, her reaction would be some fear and acting like someone who was afraid, but this time, it was different. She extented her right arm like if she would like to put her hand on the unknown left cheek, but she was a bit to far for that. Basically, nothing had really changed physically at least... Her face showed a pure innocence like a child. Behind that move, we could see there was no bad intentions, but she immediately stopped her move when she looked at her hand. Something has changed in me... I can't tell what...
"We upgraded a number of your internal parts. You may have noticed you can process information faster, and alot more at once. How you see things may also have been impacted aswell. From the limited knowledge we could gather, you seemed to have an internal overload, not being able to process everything at once. We've replaced your old microprocessor with a top of the line quantum microprocessor. We also took the liberty of upgrading other outdated components, like your.. well.. memory storage and durability of internal components." Nicole seemed a bit embarrassed about openly admitted to just how much they were snooping around inside L.O.S.T's body while she was out.
All that being said, she wasn't ready to test the underlying programming she had done until she knew that L.O.S.T functioned just as good, although much more efficiently, as before. She had no idea what the original project was for, but Nicole had her own ideas in mind, and she wasn't one to waste such an opportunity presented before her. But first came ensuring that she wasn't aware of such changes in her programming.
In fact, L.O.S.T could see that the informations was faster than before. After looking at her hand for some moments, she looked at some objects, but somehow, she could identify them even if before she did not know the name. It was a big change for her and she will need some time to get used to this novelty. I remember that I was trying to find out what my codename meant and nothing more... I have some questions. Besides the microprocessor, how old were the parts you changed? Right now I see the description of the objects and their names. Before I could not do it. L.O.S.T looked at Nicole and there was a description like the name and which affiliation she belonged to. With you too I can see some informations...
L.O.S.T was a little terrified about the new stuff and maybe she had other new upgrades that she did not know yet.
"Much of your internal components were incredibly out of date. We went through basically bringing all of your internal components up to date. We did have the idea of fully replacing them all to match more with that of a humans anatomy, since the style of how you are on the inside is incredibly out of date, but we didn't want to do that without your permission. Would you want us to do that? It would give us a greater way to improve how you function and what you're able to do." Nicole watched over her closely, keeping Jade nearby just in case, although L.O.S.T was seemingly unaware of everything that had been done to her.
"Another thing to think of is a name. I couldn't find anything when going through your programming, and saying your name that specific way every time is a little of a mouthfull. Have you ever thought of a regular name to use with friends instead of your code name?"
L.O.S.T looked at Nicole with questioning eyes. She rememebered to be name Erica by someone, but it wasn't a name that she liked. No... I don't have a name. And well... if you want my authorization to change things inside me I suppose you can. You showed no hostility toward me so I can trust you.
On those words, she layed down and looked at the light. She was a bit afraid even if there was nothing to fear.
"Is there any name you'd like? Has any you've heard ever made you wish you had it?" Nikki smiled, sending Jade to fetch the new components while Nicole stood next to L.O.S.T and talked with her. "When we finish upgrading all your internal components, you'll feel like a brand new girl~" Nicole couldn't help but feel a bit excited about this herself, but wanting to hear L.O.S.T's thoughts on a new name while Jade was getting what they'd need.
