This is simple - just make him change the images in RP going forward from a movie one to an unrelated one, done. It was a fringe historical figure, and the name is generic enough. Forcing to change the name is just insensitive.
EDIT: I was wrong, he has never used the movie imported image in roleplay
As staff members and players of the game, with the recent Kansas siege, the enabling of toxic behavior and abuse of game mechanics was made clear and evident to the community.
Why not pause the sieges until you balance the mechanics?
Why not use the power that is in your hands to stop something broken, fix it and resume after?
Why not update and improve based on community feedback?
Why not balance and make things fun for everyone?
OH cause some staff members didn't get to have their way... damn it, Karlotta is right.
And now going after the guys who've been in this game longer than 99% of the player base and staff? Really?!
What happened to Endeavour!'s report? It had evidence of 10 minutes spent while PVP dead next to a PoB serving as a Conn Bridge to get siege ammo, warning the Auxo when the defender ships were approaching to siege. Is it still in debate if it was a violation of 3.1? Due to lack of 2 videos showing him in system?
With the recent exposure via Nexus mod page and YT + 1 or more streamers, the aforementioned behavior will reduce the number of players on Discovery to Staff and their groupies. The only real shame is Aingar and the rest of the devs hard work is being shoved under the bus. Thats the real shame.
Cheers! - this rant and its subjective parts may and will offend you - good.

Funny guess but that guy was really new according to his words btw. Had I known in the middle of the fight I would have honestly told him what he's supposed to do. He didn't really talk too much in group.
Anyway. Shouldn't have forced Holliday to rename, tbf. Historical figure, it's not exactly popular culture - and he's reinvented the name to create a new character identity. Yeah, the name and picture's an import but uhhh... He'd be fine if he changed the image, honestly?

Fun fact: the movie image was never used in roleplay comms, it is just his oorp forum profile. He has just used text in his comms.

It doesn't feel like this is what's happening here really
Okay, let's write something a bit more eloquent now that I am properly awake.
I'll be the first to admit that I absolutely HATE a lot of names I've seen in the game so far in the roughly two months I'm back, and I'm all for trying to raise the standards a bit. It's off putting and destroyes the immersion I have (however little this mod offers) when I see characters like Eearhat_1, Andy_The_Old_Git(FL) or the ones from this post.
But going after Doc? First thing first, I'd argue it's not even pop-culture reference but historical one, since I doubt anyone who's not at least a bit into "wild west" and westerns would know about that character. It's also not a pop-culture invented character but again a historical person. And, to support Mel above me, Doc have made this character entirely his own. The only thing the "historical" Doc has in common with our Doc is the fact both are doctors. Our Doc is not a gambler and gunfighter, instead he is a well known leader of an organisation I'd compare to Doctors Without Borders, not to mention he has years of RP on the server behind him.
I'm all for clamping down on downright imports, memes and popculture invented characters, but THIS is not it. Even real life laws have to be considered with context in mind, thay cannot be applied blindly and without a human input, which is what you're doing right now.
Do you even realise what are you doing to the community? My faction have been discussing a possible name for the Bustard we want to use, and one of the names suggested was Drake's.Fortune, which came up through a discussion that went through several jumps from my suggesting Fernão de Magalhães (I was going for a explorer and we operate from Magellan system) after asking on discord if historical / mytholgical names are ok. Someone suggested Ferdinand Magellan so we don't sound hispanic and eventualy Drake's.Fortune came up due to someone suggesting to take inspiration from english explorers (Sir Francis Drake) instead, since the faction has roots in bretonia.
We're discussing it a bit when suddenly someone reminded us that's the name of one of the Uncharted games. Now before the warning to Doc, I wouldn't even think about it twice. I mean, the game is named after the historical figure, same as the suggested name for the ship. But now? A legitimely nice name with a good ring to it, inspired by a historical figure, and I'm still thinking heavily if we can use it or not, just because the name appeared once in pop-culture.
Is this the environement you want to create?
Edit:// Quick addition... you know what you succeeded in by this btw? Making not want to play the game, because I simply don't know when something like this comes and slaps one or the other of my characters, because I had the gall to name them after a real life location.

It's an indirect attack. allowing a base to take damage by destroying the defending forces is indeed an attack. Not by rules or technicality, but it still is.
Then it will be applied the other way around too for those that defend it. (Liberty lawfuls would not defend an untaxed POB unless it was directly involved with the military. Random unhired Freelancers/gallic corps assisting the base... etc.) -
What do you think about the SCRA Carrier's behaviour? I think that one was the Most eyebrow raising
I told him I didn't want it there.

To be fair and treat all players equally independent of their level and faction alignment.
This applies to Staff as well, not just server administrators. But it need to be specified in the rule, eh?
As to other players being involved in the attacking force, as a veteran, official faction leader and Staff member, it kinda falls into your back yard to make sure Rule 1 is respected and applied throughout the community interaction. Since only in the 1st day the defenders outnumbered the attacking force, it shows what a shit show it was, especially with last nights 15 vs 3 PoB camp, I'm sure, you as the 3 titles above - Veteran, Official faction Leader and Staff member - DID YOUR VERY BEST TO MAKE THINGS FUN FOR EVERYONE INVOVED! No. You pursued your agenda with one of your group asking the Camera ship to leave the siege area - I wonder why!? Why would someone ask a Camera Ship to leave the area?
Lemon and 1st in pair with DTR have generated more activity on the server than the rest of the factions and players combined (with the exception of Denis and his crew) and kept the server alive.
Now Lemon is getting bashed and the 1st camped and ganked at base.
For that - VRs need to be filed, and staff can't intervene in field really. The Doc Holliday warning/sanction was already posted, by staff and is out of line I feel.

okay dude, you've had your moment, please stop digging your own grave while fishing with low quality bait for the sake of everyone who actually read any of that.
after all this thread is supposed to be used for you know, actual issues and not BOP's not understanding the rules
I couldn't agree more with LuckyOne, Demonic and Mel's previous posts.
For several days now, I 've observed a sudden tendency among staff to enforce rule 1.4 in an absolutely strict manner, beyond what logic and common sense advise. In principle I agree with the rule. Currently I also don't like stupid names, memes or characters directly plagiarized from pop culture, because they generally break the immersion with the RP. However, I have always considered that rules, norms, laws in general, should not exist for the simple fact of existing, they don't justify themselves by their mere existence. On the contrary, their existence must serve the objective they pursued when they were created. In this case, rule 1.4 exists due to the need to protect the immersion of RP, which could be broken if people give themselves stupid names, or directly transfer characters from series, comics or whatever, to the server.
However, if the application of the rule not only doesn't meet the objective that was created (protect the RP), but also goes against some of the best expressions of RP characters that have been seen on this server since its inception, it's evident that either the rule is wrong, or it isn't being applied correctly. Trying to impose this rule, at this point, on characters who have existed on this server for many years, with absolutely enriching RP experiences, is truly crazy and completely meaningless.
Even in the case of Doc, which isn't only that he transferred the name of Doctor John Henry Holliday to his character, but it's suggested that he IS directly Doctor John Henry Holliday (as expressed in his personal description), he has been for no less than 15 years. In those 15 years that character has evolved and has had his own personal story, and has enriched those of many other people's characters, to such a point that today Doc Holliday is no longer a real character taken from History, but a completely new and original.
I don't understand how it's possible that a person who has been playing a character for 15 years can be required to suddenly, overnight, change his name because it goes against rule 1.4. I myself had a character called Semir Gerkhan 10 years ago, taken from a television series. He was my first character, and although he no longer exists, he gave the name to my main forum account. At that time no one told me that I couldn't use that character name. If I had continued RPing with him all this time and now I was suddenly told that I couldn't continue calling him that, I would be devastated, and it would make me want to leave and never come back.
Returning to the topic of Doc, first of all one might wonder if rule 1.4 existed in 2008, and if it did, what application was made of it. Secondly, what is the deadline for staff to pursue these "violations" of rule 1.4? Because there should be a statute of limitations so that these things don't happen. Not warning a player that his name is against the rules for 15 years, and doing it now, when he's a well-known character in the community and has thousands of hours of RP behind him, is an attack in itself against the RP.
And, I'm sorry, but hiding behind phrases like "the rules must be the same for everyone" isn't enough as an excuse. Of course they must be, but the application of the rules must also be governed by common sense. The strict and unreasonable application of the rules causes them to damage what they are intended to protect, and in doing so they become not only ineffective, but a danger. That is why there are judges in RL, to interpret the rules based on common sense and the purpose for which they were created. If everything were as easy as writing a rule on paper and applying it indiscriminately, we wouldn't need legal systems or judges. Judges exist because the rules must be interpreted when they are applied, also based on the context in which the events occur.
On the other hand, it seems that lately some of the staff have been very dedicated to reviewing the names of all the characters on the server, even doing active investigations to find even the slightest pop culture reference that could be among them. I would sincerely like to see that zeal, that dedication on the part of the staff, to try to mediate or speak out in the resolution of other problems related to the RP that we're having on the server. I will use the Kansas discussion as an example (I repeat, it's a mere example that I give because it has even reached this thread in previous posts). At this point, I personally care very little who is right in this topic, but since it's evident that there is a serious conflict in the interpretation of the rules on RP by the different parties and factions, I'm surprised that I haven't read any official statement from the staff on that subject, and yet be attending this kind of "witch hunt" about characters names, whose purpose I cannot understand.
And please, I hope that with this no one sees that I am joining the bandwagon of constant criticism to the staff. In general I believe that the staff does what they can with what they have, but if something seems stupid to me, I feel obliged to say so.
TL;DR: I don't agree with applying now rule 1.4 to characters with a long RP history on the server. They are established characters at this point. If in their day they were transfers of pop culture characters, now they are no longer, because what happened in RP on the server has turned them into original creations of their players. The time to ask them to change their name passed a long time ago. If it wasn't done at the time, now it makes no sense to do so, and forcing them to do so harms the RP.
