Small people should have to work in packs to take them down - one ship pulling out this giant wave motion gun and tossing out a '2 mil r dai' or a 'halt r die smuglar' is just dumb and unfair to the guy in the Transport, who probably paid between 70 and 200 million credits for his ship; he's just had all of his hard work rendered useless by a guy with one tiny, tiny ship and an abnormally big gun. People treat Transports like crap, but there ARE those of us who fly them as our main ship, and we'd like to stop being everybody's butt monkeys.
Point is, you're pitting a military grade piece of technology against a supply runner. Truck Vs. RPG. The truck is big, costs a hell of a lot more than the tiny, tiny guy with the abnormally large gun, but the RPG will most probably win through.
What you're asking for is for the single most non-combatant ship class of the game to suddenly grow a pair and be able to tear up bombers. I can't see it ever happening. If you don't want extra turrets, by all means slap on copieous amounts of extra hull. At least that way you've got a fair chance of making it home if you focus on running.
Just what exactly are you asking for though? Nerf the bombers or buff the transports? Nerf the bombers has been done to death, and buff the transports could be done in two ways - more turrets or more armour.
well - yea - originally - only the order would have a supernova - and the rest of sirius a sunslayer haha. only - i cannot remember if anyone would every seriously has tried to RP that.
from the very start - everyone has claimed the supernova to be generic.
Transports cost along the lines of Cruiser prices. Cruiser prices, mind you. I find it an oddly uncompelling argument to claim that something which costs the price of a cruiser (big, nasty, warship with a rather prodigious battle effectiveness, if you need an explanation on Cruisers) has devoted all of that cost, beyond, say, 30 million in combat tech, to a large empty space for holding things. I can't imagine what else its using that, extra price for, after devoting about 30 million to combat effectiveness.
The 30 million, by the way? Approximately the same as the entire price of the gunboat, for hull, armour, powerplant, gun mounts, but far less effective.
There's something wrong with the price, there.
So, yes. Military grade? What is 'military grade'? Government goods, overpaid for, and apparently vastly superior to the simply insanely expensive Semi Trucks of Sirius...or if we look at the prices of ships, I'm sure you'll find that exxon haulers are much cheaper than military vessels of similar size.
